New Developments In The Star Wars Universe

If you are like me, you love Star Wars and have been obsessed with all Star Wars related news since "The Force Awakens" was announced. It's been Star Wars Mania for the past couple of months. The last few weeks were especially full of Star Wars news. Here are a few of the newest developments in the Star Wars universe.

1. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Trailer

The trailer for Star Wars' first Anthology film was released on April 7th. The movie will star Felicity Jones, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen and Alan Tudyk. The film will take place just before "A New Hope." It will focus on a group of Rebel spies who are on a mission to steal the plans for the Death Star. The release of the trailer spurred much speculation from fans and theories about who Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) actually is. Some fans have wondered if she is the answer to the ever pressing question of "Who is Rey's mother?" Some have run with this theory and even suggest she could have been a love interest for Luke Skywalker. Another theory is that Jyn is Poe Dameron's mother. Regardless, the release of the trailer has brought up many topics of discussion for fans about the anthology of the Star Wars Universe.

2. C-3PO's red arm

Five months after the release of "The Force Awakens," we finally have answers! OK, we certainly don't have all the answers, but we do now know why C-3PO's arm was red in the film. Last Wednesday, the reason was revealed in a one-shot comic published by Marvel titled "C-3PO." The story is that C-3PO wears the red arm in memory of a fallen droid who sacrificed itself to save him. The comic falls the tale of a group of Resistance droids all of which die (despite C-3P0, obviously) in a mission to save the captured Admiral Ackbar. C-3PO loses an arm in this mission and takes the one of Omri who sacrificed himself in acid rain. Fans believe the comic does a good job of addressing the nature of droids in the Star Wars world.

3. Breaking ground for Star Wars Land

Last Thursday, Disney broke ground on the new lands coming to their theme parks. Star Wars Land at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World both have a long way to come. But they released a 360 sneak peek of the 14-acre site at Disneyland. The 360 images show the early stages of construction and some help from characters such as R2-D2.

4. The Original Fate of Obi-Wan Kenobi

Last Friday, Chewbacca actor Peter Mayhew shared some original pages for the script of "A New Hope." These pages revealed that Obi-Wan Kenobi was not originally supposed to die at the hands of Darth Vader. In the script, Kenobi fights with Vader but manages to survive. He runs to the Falcon and Luke uses Vader's lightsaber to help Kenobi after a blast knocks him down. The rest of the plot remains mostly the same.

These are exciting times to be a Star Wars fan. The franchise is expanding in terms of movies and theme parks. But mostly it is expanding the stories. Star Wars is becoming a full thought out universe by introducing the first anthology film, releasing books that are now part of the canon and by creating a way to actually step into the story. There is so much more to come!

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.
