There is big news in the mobile phone industry--Google has just announced the upcoming release of their own Google Phone. Google's first phone, called Pixel, was announced earlier this week and is designed to be a direct competitor to Apple's new iPhone 7. For those of you who thought that Google's first phone was the Nexus series, this is incorrect since they have outsourced manufacturing for Nexus phone parts to other companies such as LG, ASUS and Motorola. What separates the Pixel from the Nexus is that Google makes all of the components and parts that make up the Pixel.
As seen from the commercial below, the Google Pixel has a lot of interesting key features to take a look at. First, It has a battery that fast charges seven hours of battery life in 15 minutes. This charging speed is remarkable, and is a must have feature if you are a constant user of your phone. If you have been browsing on your phone all morning, a quick break at an electrical outlet will add a few hours of battery life to your phone.
Pixel also has unlimited storage where you can use the cloud to store various media. The Pixel even takes a stab at Apple with its headphone jack that Apple has gotten rid of.
However, there is just one thing that is unoriginal with Google Pixel. Upon looking at the phone, I did notice that the phone has lots of similarities with Apple's iPhone 6 and 6s. Both have the same shape as well as the same home button that you press. The camera is located in a pretty similar place on the back upper left hand corner of the device. The charging port is located at the bottom center of the device (like with most phones) and the body of the phone is glass aluminum, just like the iPhone. Its 5 inch display (5.5 inch for Pixel XL) is also similar to the iPhone 6 and its 4.7 inch display. The iPhone Plus's display is the same size of the Pixel XL.
To say that Google Pixel is an exact copy of Apple's iPhone is not correct. There are also some major differences between the two: Pixel comes in three different colors-- black, silver and blue. The ring on the back upper center is a fingerprint sensor where you can unlock your phone with a touch rather that press on the home button. This fingerprint unlock feature has been relocated to the back whereas Apple's sensor is integrated within the home screen button.
Regardless of design, Google's new phone certainly seems to be promising. With the safety recalls of the Samsung Galaxy S7 Note line and the absence of a headphone jack with Apple's new iPhone 7, Google's new phone is a product that will keep old components while expanding capacity on the most used features of any smartphone device. Pre-orders are available now for the official release on October 20th. Prices start at $649.
