It's been a long four months.

Goodbye Summer '16, Hello Fall Semester
Info Twister

College summers are a lot different than high school summers, that's for sure. What was once a two month, vacation-packed time is now four months of sitting around on the couch, eating your weight in tater tots. Being the nerd that I am, I've never been one for summer break in general, and this year is no different. I can remember always bellyaching to my mom and dad, "Why can't I just be in class already? I can't wait to start! How is this only one week into summer?!" Well, in just 2 days, my summer '16 will be coming to an end.

It's a bittersweet feeling, though. Yes, I am looking forward to a change of scenery, but once again, I'll have to adjust to being away from home. No matter how boring a break may be, it is still your home and what you know. I'll miss my family and pets, but I won't miss these six things:

1. Having to worry about running into someone from high school

There is absolutely no worse feeling than having to duck behind a shopping cart when you see someone you sat in class with just last year. No matter how close you were or weren't, it is guaranteed to be an awkward interaction.

2. Feeling useless

Okay, great. I already know how many steps my bed is from the bathroom and how many steps the couch is from the fridge, what else do you want from me? At least at college, you're forced to do semi-productive things with your life, like read a 2,000-page textbook and write a 50,000-word response.

3. Living 200 miles from all of my friends

So if I take the 9:05 a.m. bus out of here, and connect to the 12:20 p.m. bus there, I can make it to my friend's house by 5 p.m. It's all so much simpler when you live three doors down the hall...

4. Seeing people have more fun than me

Thanks, Snapchat. I really needed to know that seven people are at the beach, three are at Disney, and six are on road trips. Well, I bet they have sunburn anyway.

5. Being dependent again

After 8 months away from home, living under your parents' roof takes some getting used to. No more 4 a.m. bowls of cereal and bags of popcorn, and you're actually expected to do laundry on a regular basis.

6. My screwed up sleep schedule

At least at college, you kind of need a decent sleep schedule to do well in classes and extracurriculars. At home, who cares if you haven't slept in 4 days? You have no need for energy or alertness, and naps are an option 24/7.

I really can't wait to be back at school, despite the tiny dorms, mediocre cafeteria food and seemingly impossible course work. Summer break just isn't the same after graduating from high school.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
