As Season 13 rolls around, "Grey's Anatomy" fans will have to say goodbye to one of their favorite characters. Dr. Calliope Iphegenia Torres danced her way into our hearts in Season two, when Chief Webber discovered she was living in the basement of the hospital. Saying goodbye to other characters has been hard, none harder than Derek Shepherd, but they all got a big goodbye. George had a funeral, Burke broke up with Cristina at their wedding, Cristina got to dance it out with Meredith, but Callie didn't get that. Sara Ramirez didn't tell Shonda Rhimes that she was leaving until after the Season 12 finale had been shot and was well into production. This is leaving a void in our hearts that will not be able to be filled. Take a stroll down memory lane as we remember the best and worst times of Callie Torres.
When we first met Callie, she was an ortho resident on her way to becoming one of the most amazing surgeons. She had a crush on George, but George was too hung up on Izzie to notice at first. Once he realized, they had an on again off again relationship until the wedding. After George's father died, he and Callie went to Vegas and got married. That was a doomed relationship from the start. Shortly after, they got a divorce and all the Grey's fans took a sigh of relief.
Shortly after her divorce with George, she met Erica Hahn. She started to realize that she might be gay, or at least bi. However, that relationship was short lived, and thank God because she met Arizona.
Arizona skated into Callie's life during Callie's last year of residency. They started as friends; Arizona was adamant about not gong out with Callie. At some point, Arizona decided to go for it, and Grey's fans went nuts. Callie and Arizona had their trials and tribulations, but I still think they were meant for each other.
During the iconic Africa fight, when Arizona left Callie, Callie and Mark Sloan hooked up and Callie became pregnant. At first, everyone was a little shocked and upset, but they all got over it and moved on.
One of the worst moments in Callie's life was the car crash. She and baby Sofia almost died multiple times. Through that experience, though, Arizona realized she couldn't live without our precious Callie and asked her to get married.
The plane crash was the beginning of the end for Callie's relationship with Arizona. She made the call to cut off Arizona's infected leg in order to save her life, but Arizona didn't see it that way. After a couple of affairs, they got a divorce throwing Sofia in the middle of a custody battle. When the judge gave sole custody to Arizona, my heart broke for Callie. Granted, she was moving across the country to be with Penny, but that didn't mean she wasn't capable of taking care of a child.
I never like to see characters go, but losing Callie is going to be hard. Goodbyes are never easy. Maybe we can hope for a return someday but for now, Goodbye, Callie Torres.
