Winter and I just don't agree. I despise the cold, it feels like it's constantly gray outside, and it makes me sad. Not to mention I live in a city, which means I walk almost everywhere I go and almost get knocked over by the wind at least once a week. My bed becomes more and more tempting and I quickly become grossly unproductive. However, I like to think I'm a generally positive person and try to look at the bright side of things. So, for my fellow winter-haters out there, here are some little things that make the winter season bearable.

1. Soup (and other warm foods)

Let's just face it: soup, hot chocolate, and casseroles just aren't the same when it's hot outside. There's nothing like a warm meal on a cold day.

2. Sweaters, scarves, and boots

They're comfortable and cute. What else could you ask for? I'm always looking for new, fashionable articles of clothing to protect me from the bitter cold.

3. Winter Sports

You can't ski, snowboard, snow-tube, or ice skate outside when it's 70 degrees. Fact.

4. The scenery

Whether you live in a city, in the suburbs, or in the middle of nowhere, the moment right after it snows is stunning. Everything is still and it looks like the earth is sleeping under a big white blanket.

5. Playing in the snow

Some of my favorite memories with my sisters are making snowmen, sledding in our backyard, and throwing snowballs at each other.

6. More hermit time

When it's warm outside, I need to be outside or I feel like I'm wasting a beautiful day. During winter on the other hand, I have no shame in not leaving my house all day. Sometimes two days if I'm being honest. It also leaves more time for self-care, which we all need.

7. Cuddling

I mean, cuddling with a loved one or a pet is great in any season, but it's marginally better when it's cold outside. If it's snowing, even better...love those hallmark vibes am I right? Also, less of a chance for sweating on each other.

8. No Mosquitoes

I don't need to say anything else. I mean I know every creature has a purpose for the good of the earth, but we can all agree that not having to worry about bug bites for a few months is pretty cool.

9. Pretty lights

If you've never packed your family in a car and drove around a neighborhood looking at Christmas lights...try it next December because it's beautiful and perfect.

10. The holidays

Sure, gifts and big meals are great, but the cheer of the holidays and seeing family/friends that you haven't seen in months brings a magical feeling like no other time of the year.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
