10 Good Study Breaks For Finals

You can lock yourself in a room for hours and attempt to study, but odds are your brain will need a break. Only so much information can be retained in a period of time, which is why study breaks are important. Study breaks keep you motivated, energized and refreshed. They also relax you for a little and relieve your stress, which helps the mind retain and comprehend more information. During finals crunch time it is important to make the most of your time and zoning out for 20 minutes is definitely not going to help you. It will only make you feel like you are studying more.

Instead of the 20-minute zone out period, take a study break and feel recharged and ready to ace your exam.

1. Take a 20-minute nap. This is the perfect time because you don't get into a deep sleep, so no more than 20 minutes.

2. Close your eyes and listen to music. Don't fall asleep though

3. Go for a quick run. It's so nice out, you might as well enjoy the weather.

4. Eat a quick snack. A growling stomach is the worst (and embarrassing) distraction. AVOID junk food.

5. Watch a quick episode on Netflix. The worst thing to do during finals is start a new TV show, so watch a repeat or a quick 20 minute show.

6. Read a book or magazine. Reading gets your mind thinking about something else, which helps relax the mind.

7. Talk to friends. It's the last week of school remember that and remember your friends too.

8. Drink some coffee. If you find yourself falling asleep, get a cup of refreshing coffee. There is a reason why the Starbucks lines are so long during finals.

9. Take a Quick Shower. Showers will make you feel clean and fresh.

10. Stretch. The quickest study break is a little stretch. Your mind becomes numb from sitting in one spot for too long so walk around stretch and wake up.

Remember these are breaks, so keep them short and sweet. You need to study and earn your break, so work hard and remember summer is just around the corner but to have a great summer you want to earn great grades.

Good luck!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots.
