As a huge animal lover, I find it extremely repulsive and disgusting when I find out any makeup company tests their products on animals of any kind. Recently, I even discovered a makeup company I liked (I'm not going to say name...*cough* M.A.C.) tests their products on animals. I immediately was disgusted and have sworn off the products. But that had me thinking, who else was secretly tying up animals in a back room and forcing their products on them? Because surely I no longer wanted to participate with those companies. I realized a lot of people like to know this and help put these industries out of business. So thanks to PETA and some other sources who I will credit later on in this article, I now have a pretty nice list of makeup companies you should avoid, and makeup companies who should become your new bff.
100% Pure - BEFRIEND IT
100% pure and 100% cruelty free.
Almay - AVOID IT
Kate Hudson can make kissy faces at me all she wants and Carrie Underwood can tell me how smart their shades are, but that doesn't change the fact that Almay does test on animals.
Aveda - BEFRIEND IT
This definitely makes me feel good, considering my hair stylist uses Aveda. Love a good hair color with no guilt!
Burt's Bees - BEFRIEND IT
This is definitely a huge relief, being as the little tingly feeling you get after putting on Burt's Bees is like getting kissed by an angel. Now Burt's Bees has even more proof they're angels since they are cruelty-free.
Covergirl - AVOID IT
This one actually surprised me being as one of their spokespersons, Ellen DeGerenes, is a huge animal rights activist. Maybe Ellen was not aware of their stance on animal testing, but they were put on PETA's Do Test list. Easy... breezy... killing animals.
Dove - AVOID IT
It's kind of ironic that their name is Dove, yet they test on animals.
Eco Tan - BEFRIEND IT

E.L.F. Cosmetics - BEFRIEND IT
A friend of PETA's is a friend of mine. We sell E.L.F. where I work and now I'll be happy to pay for it especially now finding it on PETA's cruelty-free list.
Essie - AVOID IT
This one hurts my heart. I love Essie nail polish, but it appears I'll be looking for a new nail polish company. Unfortunately, PETA discovered they are in fact testing on animals.
Jane - BEFRIEND IT
Yay! Jane is definitely a friend of mine! Searching the company on PETA shows the company is clear of any disgusting animal testing. Way to go, Jane!
Johnson & Johnson - AVOID IT
Their baby lotion and baby oil can make you feel super smooth, but what about the baby cats or bunnies that didn't get to feel so hot since they do test on animals?
L'Oreal - AVOID IT
Sorry ladies, it appeals L'Oréal is not a friend to our furry friends, so they're not a friend to me. Publicly outted and put on the "does test on animals" list by PETA.
M.A.C. Cosmetics - AVOID IT
Outed by PETA, M.A.C. was thrown under the bus in claims that they in fact DO test on animals. More specifically, a picture was released that rumored to be a MAC testing center. The picture has a bunch of cats strapped down as they are being tested. Sorry ladies, I know this one may be heartbreaking.
Manic Panic - BEFRIEND IT
Looking for a fun color to spice up your hair? No fear, Manic Panic is completely cruelty-free! They also have a brand of nail polish for guilt-free mani-pedis!
Marc Jacobs - BEFRIEND IT
Good news, Marc Jacobs lovers! According to PETA, Marc Jacobs is a cruelty-free brand!
Mary Kay - AVOID IT
What do I love? Companies who don't force their products on defenseless animals and end up either killing them or severely harming them. Looks like our friend Mary Kay was caught in a lie. Though Mary Kay's site says "We do not conduct animal testing on our products or ingredients, nor ask people to do so on our behalf." But by a quick check by PETA, that appears to be false. In fact, they do test their products on animals.
Maybelline - AVOID IT
Maybe she's born with it...or maybe it was tested on defenseless cats and bunnies. Hmm...outed by PETA for animal testing. Maybelline?... Maybe not.
Michael Kors - AVOID IT
Well, well, well, looks like Mr. Kors has been up to no good. Outed by PETA, we all now know Micahel Kors tests their products on poor little animals.
Misa Cosmetics - BEFRIEND IT
Love finding nail polishes that can give me a guilt-free manicure or pedicure! Thanks to Misa I can have that since they do not test on animals.
Nair - AVOID IT
Sorry, Nair lovers. PETA found out Nair does, in fact, test on animals.
Neutrogena - AVOID IT
Blacklisted by PETA, skin-cleaning product Neutrogena has been revealed to be animal testers... guess I'd rather live with pimples on my face then live knowing I had to kill innocent animals to get clear skin.
Pacifica - BEFRIEND IT
No fear here, Pacifica signed PETA's cruelty-free pledge and is not sold in China. Yay for keeping our furry friends safe from harmful chemicals.
Pantene - AVOID IT
No matter how shiny and unbreakable Selena Gomez says Pantene makes her hair, it still breaks our hearts since the company tests on animals.
Pixi - BEFRIEND IT
Now we can look like fairies while not harming any animals - how perfect! Pixi cosmetics signed PETA's cruelty-free pledge and does not sell to China.
Polished by KPT - BEFRIEND IT
Yay another guilt-free polish!
Revlon - AVOID IT
Another makeup giant outed by PETA. Only this time, they were caught in a lie. Revlon portrayed themselves to PETA as a cruelty-free company. That is, until 2012 when PETA found out Revlon had been selling to China - a country that requires animal testing on all makeup companies who sell to them. When asked about it, Revlon refused to answer question. Stinks to be caught in a lie, doesn't it, Revlon?
Secret Procter and Gamble - AVOID IT
Looks like I need to make a trip to get new deodorant. Outed by PETA, Secret Procter and Gamble does, in fact, testing on animals.
Suave - AVOID IT
As a child, I used to use this, and even mispronounce it as sue-evey but that's a story for another time. But, no matter how I pronounce their actual name they are still a company who tests on animals.
Urban Decay - BEFRIEND IT
Good news, ladies! The beloved NAKED palettes are cruelty-free! Luckily, Urban Decay is on PETA's no cruelty list!
Wet'n'Wild - BEFRIEND IT

"We are happy to inform you that we do not test on animals at any point of our production nor do we purchase any materials from vendors who test on animals. Our products are made in China but not sold in China.”
It's hard to navigate your way around finding out if your favorite brand does or doesn't test on animals. To some people, it doesn't bother them. But, personally, it bothers to me know that if I need a lipstick it first had to be injected into a helpless cat strapped onto a metal table... but you do you.
If you would like to find out more products who do/do not test on animals you can click HERE to search through PETA's database.
