Think about it. We’ve all had those crazy weeks, crazy days. Rushing around everywhere, trying to get everything done all while trying to maintain somewhat of a social life, and getting the proper amount of sleep. It can be exhausting. It’s during these times when we probably have huge exams, important presentations, or massive papers due, right? The last thing on your mind is probably what you look like, and what you’re going to wear. But just think -- think about how you feel when you have on your favorite outfit, and you took time to put yourself together. The other day a friend said to me, “Hey, when you look good, you feel good.”
And I couldn’t agree more.
I don’t know about you, but when my outfit is on-point, I just feel invincible and like I can accomplish anything I set my mind to. I know if I have a big test, or a presentation, if I look good, and take time to put myself together in the morning, it carries on into my day. I instantly have more confidence in everything I do. Looking good and feeling good all goes hand in hand with self-confidence.
Yes, I am talking about your OOTD (outfit of the day). Taking time to dress nice, and not just throwing on the first pair of sweats you see, can really impact how the rest of your day goes. For example, just the other day one of my friends told me that I looked nice, and that I always looked nice and put together. And that made me feel good. It gave me a nice confidence boost that stayed with me the rest of the day. If something so small can make such a big impact on your attitude and confidence, I say it’s something you should incorporate every day in your life.
It didn’t come easy for me either. For years I never cared about how I dressed, or thought about how it portrayed me to the public. I always wore sweatpants and sweatshirts. A lot of it had to do with a lack of self-confidence, so I just never put in any effort to even try and look good. But I’ve learned that putting in that extra effort helps me gain self-confidence. It makes me feel good about myself. Does that sound a little selfish? Yeah, maybe. But if it’s the difference in my attitude for the day, and gives me the little confidence booster I need to get me through a test or presentation, then so be it.
I think we all need to be a little selfish sometimes, and remember that it’s OK to take care of ourselves. We so get caught up in helping others and being such good people to others that we forget to be good people to ourselves. It’s healthy to be selfish once and a while, and to take time taking care of yourself. It’s called being human. I’ve learned that a few extra minutes in the morning can make world of difference in the afternoon.
So be selfish. Take care of you. Spend some time on you. More likely than not, you deserve it. Reward yourself by looking awesome. You’ll find that self-confidence, and acing that exam, isn't far away.
