People often assume that, since you go to a smaller school, that it’s easier than a big state school and it doesn’t hold as much credit as a bigger, well-known school. But, just because you go to a smaller, lesser-known school, it’s still a great school!
Although many people may not even know about your college, just because it’s smaller, it doesn’t mean that it’s not a good school. If people act like their school is better than yours because it’s some huge school: WHO CARES.
You will get out of it what you put into it, no matter where you go for college. That holds true for the educational and the social aspects of it. At a smaller school, you can start building connections and a network, especially when you’re in a larger city, where it’s very important.
At a big school, starting a professional relationship with professors is hard, but the name of the school is helpful in its own. However, the smaller class sizes allow students to have more help right at their fingertips if they’re struggling.
When it comes to meeting new people and having to actually put yourself out there, it is a great experience within college to learn about the real world and working environment.
Going to a smaller school taught me more about what life is like when you’re on your own completely in the big city, which will only be beneficial for my future. It’s given me more life lessons than I asked for, but I’m appreciative of it.
That doesn’t mean that you can’t still act immaturely from time to time like a “normal” college student does at a Big 10 school. There are some aspects of a small school that people who attend it have to get over.
For one, since it is smaller, it’s easier to make friends, and people know everything about everyone. It’s a small community within a huge one, which can be very comforting during those four years.
And even though attendance is necessary for every class, which can be annoying, it definitely keeps students on track with classes, whether they want to go or not. That’s something that I don’t necessarily appreciate because taking a personal day would be nice every once in awhile, but I do understand how it helps.
Like I said numerous times before, it’s a different experience, which isn’t for everyone, but it’s a better experience than most people would often think. And as long as you go to class and put effort into it, college at a small school is just as fun and educational as any other large school.
