Exams are finally over, all of your books have been returned, and your stuff is all packed up; now that the semester is finally over, you can go home, hang with all your friends, and relax. At least that's what you'd like to think. Everybody knows that going home for the summer is a blessing and a curse. We love our families, but let's face it, it's the summer now and the JUST saw you like 3 months ago; you can't expect any special treatment. You'll realize quick why going home for the summer can actually be the worst.
1. There's no food
After opening and closing the fridge a few times to be 100% sure, you realize that somehow, even with less mouths to feed, the fridge manages to be as empty as it was before you moved out.
2. Running into old classmates is the worst
Running into old classmates is fun because you get to see what they're up to and see how much they'v changed right? WRONG. Being forced into awkward conversations with people you went to school with but never spoke to is literally a social death sentence.
3. Everything feels really inconvenient
In college, all of the stores are mashed together in one tight-knit group; anything you could possibly need was only a short walk away. Now that your home you have to drive everywhere ( or have your parents do it you you don't have a car).
4. You're not guaranteed a place to sleep
You've been gone for a while and your family's learned how to function without you. If your folks haven't rented our your room or turned it into an office, you can bet one of your siblings has taken over your space.
5. You're constantly feeling like you can't wait to go back
Being with friends and family is nice and all, but so is having an entire place to yourself. Walking around the house in your underwear is a privilege, not a right.
Coming home for the summer is fun and exciting, but try to stay strong when it starts to feel like a drag. I'm not telling you to count the days until you return, but I'm not not telling you, ya know?
