Who doesn't love going home?!
But, why do we love going home?
We all come from different places and live in completely different situations. Some of us have traveled across the country to come to UCLA and others live about 10 minutes down the road. One of the
things that creeps into all of our minds, however, is home.
Going home is a little easier for some, depending on
travel costs and the distance. Sometimes, it just seems impossible to go
back home. I only live about 20 minutes away from home but, still, I rarely go home.
I only go home for special occasions, usually for a family
member's birthday or a holiday, but other than that, I never go
home. School is great, but the work can be so much there isn't time for anything else.
When I do get to go home, it makes my family and me very happy.
As I write this, I am home for Mother’s Day and my mother’s
birthday. Just in this one weekend, I can see a difference in my
family and friends. I love being home and having so many familiar faces
around. It also does not hurt that there are good home cooked meals that fill you up for hours and the leftovers are so plentiful it seems like they will last forever.
There's a sense of comfort in being back at home. Just being able to relax and not have to do
homework is an amazing feeling. I might have homework, but I've managed to forget about it and not worry – something that never happens at school. I feel as if time does not exist. I am not worried about assignments and when they are due.
I don’t feel pressured to make sure I set an alarm. I can sleep whenever I want and wake up whenever I
want.
The feeling of leaving after coming home for a quick break can be a little bittersweet, but it
is probably best not to think much of it. Here are a couple of tips when going back home.
1. Do your homework before you arrive.
2. Eat as much of your mom’s food as possible.
3. Hangout with your loved ones as much as possible.
4. Make sure you don’t leave foo in your room that can spoil.
5. Enjoy yourself!
