To the Goals I Always Set but Never Fully Complete

I know that making the same goal over and over doesn't cause me to change, but making goals is still very important to me.

At the start of every new semester, month, and sometimes even day, I try and set goals for myself on what I want to accomplish and how I want to improve. With most of them, especially the goals for the month and the semester, I never actually accomplish them. Somehow, making goals I never meet, doesn't stop me from making them over and over every month. The goals are an important part of getting myself motivated for the start of something new, and something that I value.

For me, the goals are something that keeps me on track. It gives me the chance to find things that I want to improve on, and something to try and work towards every month. Writing out what I want to accomplish helps me focus on what's important, and helps me push myself further.

Maybe now, while I'm pursuing a literature degree, isn't the best time to try and stick to my goal of reading for pleasure more. However, it's still something that I want to accomplish one day. I might not always accomplish my goals in the way that I want them to, but I try to accomplish things that are equal to them.

While I write three goals for every day, sometimes what I think is important at the beginning of the day, isn't the same as what I end up finding most important at the end of the day and end up doing. I know that my goals are something to motivate me instead of something that I should judge my successes or failures on.

While I know that I don't have to write down everything in order to accomplish it, it's something that holds me accountable. Not only does it remind me what I needed to do, but it also motivates me to stay on track with what I planned to do. I love being able to evaluate what my three most important tasks are, especially since it reminds me that I don't have to accomplish everything in one day and to break big tasks into smaller ones.

To the goals I make and don't end up completing, one day I will actually complete the goals that I've set for myself. Until then, I'm going to continue to write goals for myself. It's something that keeps me on track and reminds me to focus on the important things. These goals help me organize myself, mentally and physically, and that's something that I'm not going to give up any time soon.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
