As January 20th, 2017 marked a significant day in American history, Donald Trump became appointed as our nation's new leader. No longer is Donald Trump a mere business man, but through the course of a difficult election, he has been given the responsibility to represent the valiant, liberating values that define our country. However, as quickly as he has taken office many changes have been brought into office resulting in drastic consequences. Ranging from appointing new members of the president's cabinet to signing executive orders, Trump has not hesitated to taken immediate action with his newly found power.
In particular, Trump has taken several actions that have hindered the progress of a particular government-funded organization, known as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Since its establishment during a time of environmental crisis in the 1970s, the EPA has had exponential success in raising public awareness, making governmental policies changes, and creating programs to improve the environment. Clearly, this agency is required to continue the progress it has made throughout the decades. However, the EPA's efforts could prove to be hindered if Trump's decisions take effect.
For example, Trump has signed an executive order that will reduce the regulations that grant organizations like the EPA funds. In addition, it has been discussed that certain restrictions will result in the alteration of laws enacted by the EPA to conserve the environment. Specifically, laws relating to the level of emissions acceptable for industrial companies as well as severe budget cuts to programs studying climate are being questioned. These restrictions on the EPA's progress could potentially have negative consequences for environmental conservation.
Also, Trump has appointed Scott Pruitt as the nominee to take over the EPA, which is highly opposed by Democrats. Members of the EPA and Democrats are concerned with the policies and values that Pruitt supports. Will he truly do justice for the environment? In fact, as an attorney general Pruitt has launched multiple cases against the EPA. Therefore, it leaves many people wondering if Pruitt is capable of upholding EPA standards. Democrats have taken action by boycotting the meeting that would have officially nominated Pruitt into the EPA. While it is a movement of protest, it is imperative to remain professional and respect the decisions currently being made. Despite conflict occurring between opposing political viewpoints, the importance of environmental conservation needs to be addressed.
While significant changes are being made in the White House, there are some that might not be necessarily beneficial. Although permanent changes have not been enacted upon the EPA, members are fearful for negative implications. As citizens that have received a new leader, it is crucial that opinions are voiced. A leader is only as good as the commitment of his followers. Trump must be mindful of the changes he is making as not to disrupt the progress our society has worked so hard to achieve.
