Why You Should Go Greek This Fall At Texas State
Texas State Panhellenic

1. Formal recruitment is a once in a lifetime experience.

Seriously, imagine it the best you can then do this: multiply it by fifty, add 1,000 screaming girls, the smell of hairspray, and chants that won't be out of your head for a month. And then do it all in heels. Formal recruitment is sure to foster memories that you will never forget- from forging bonds to being blown away by girls turning into bobble heads, to being overcome by emotion on preference night- recruitment covers it all.

2. A chance to make new friends (seriously you just gained like 200 friends that’s pretty cool)

What better way to make friends than to join a group of women who all have one thing in common: their love for each other and their organization. Sisters by chance, friends by choice- and believe me you're about to make a lot of them.

3. Bid Day. A reason in itself.

Get ready for one of the best day of your lives. Photo op galore, bouncy houses, free food (correction: free GOOD food), and a bunch of new girls who are obsessed with you and can't wait to be your friends. The absolute perfect way to start such an amazing journey.

4. Texas State Panhellenic women hold themselves to a higher accord.

We strive to uphold ourselves to a certain level of values. We devote ourselves to the highest degree of integrity and honesty, commit to academic superiority, become an avid member of the community and campus, assist in our philanthropic duties always, and remain faithful and proud of our letters. In addition to all of this, we continue to foster the highest ideals of friendship and cherish sisterhood like no other.

5. Philanthropy.

Who doesn't love giving back to their community? And we do. A lot. Each sorority has their own separate foundation to which we truly devote ourselves to. Through philanthropy events, fundraising nights, and a wide array of volunteer hours we love be able to help others.

6. Becoming involved in something bigger than yourself.

We are each one person inside of one chapter which makes up one of seven chapters in Texas State Panhellenic which makes up one of many, many, many schools that house a Panhellenic community. You are on worker aunt in a sea of them...but you are important, you are valuable to your chapter and your community and your sorority itself. That's what makes it so special.

7. Embracing leadership.

Whether you're a leader or a follower you truly learn to embrace leadership in Greek life. There are so many opportunities to become a leader within each chapter as well as through Greek affairs, panhellenic, and order of omega. These positions truly help prepare you for real life positions with communication, public speaking, financial, paperwork, and organizational responsibilities. Even if you decide not to run for an officer or exec position- you will still learn a thing or two about working within a team and following leadership while still being able to contribute your voice and ideas to the matter.

8. Socials, And Mixers, and Formals. Oh my!

Do I really need to explain this further? The bang for your buck with these is amazing and now there are instantly six different events a year you get to go get dressed up for and have a really great time with your sisters and potential dates.

9. A true support system.

There's a decent chance I would have dropped out of college within the first two months if I didn't find a support system within my own chapter. Your sisters are your family. Your family is there to be understanding and be there for you 100% unconditionally. You will need a new family in college- and believe me, you will find them here and with them you can get through whatever life throws your way.

10. The Greek system CARES ABOUT YOU.

Greek affairs truly cares about you, your sisters, and the rest of the Greek community. They care about how you function within your own chapter and outside of Greek life. What matters to you matters to them. The Greek community is incredibly involved in social issues all over campus including sexual assault which is rising problem particularly in the Greek community. They work to assist you and make your life easier, better, and more fulfilling.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
