Go Blue, Go PINK!

The saying, "On Wednesdays we wear PINK" took on a whole new meaning this past Wednesday night. From 7-9 pm at the Gamma Phi Beta house at the University of Michigan Campus Reps for Victoria's Secret PINK, Taylor Bradburn and Caitlin LeRoux, hosted the PINK Active Launch party.

The night was filled with yoga, fun, and lots of giveaways. Three Yoga instructors from the Michigan Yoga Club, Noelle Polakowski, Mariah Silverstein, and Carly Noah, kept the girls sweating as they twisted and stretched into some intense positions. The University of Michigan Her Campus team was also at the event promoting their own organization and giving away some awesome prizes.

Almost every girl that attended the event left with some sort of freebie. Senior Kerri Clifford attended the event and was one of those lucky winners! When asked about her time at the event she stated, "I had an exam that night right after my session of yoga. It was so nice finding my zen before I went and took my Econ Exam. For anyone who has every taken Econ you know that the exams are anything but tranquil." She continued, "I was psyched to find out that I won a sports bra. I received a text right when I got out of the exam letting me know I had won. So I may not have taken the W on the exam but I definitely took a W at PINK."

The event also had a student from the Screen, Arts, and Culture department, Marie Monark, filming all the action. She explained, "The turn out for this event was so great! I came in to help film but left hoping I would end up with a few PINK items myself! It was all so cool."

The energy in the room was contagious and empowering. The women in attendance were all such confident and determined people that it would be hard to leave without a smile on ones face.

Junior Lauren Siegel joined in on the fun as well stating, " I think the environment was super fun and had a nice balance of activity and just hanging out. The yoga was a nice touch for a break during our hectic schedule and gave a nice reminder of what pink stands for." Siegel and her friend, Natalie Zimmerman, were the winners of the Grand Prize and took home a full outfit, gym bag, water bottle, headband, and VS Gift card!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
