I Feel Like My Other Life Is 500 Miles Away And These 10 Reasons Show We are ready to go back to college

There is no place in the world quite like home, and while I love being there, I can't help but miss my other life 500 miles away.

I Feel Like My Other Life Is 500 Miles Away And These 10 Reasons Show We are ready to go back to college

Everyone has a different experience at school. Some commute, some dorm, some love it, some hate it, but I think most people can agree there is nothing that compares to being on a college campus. While I adore the people and comfort of home, it has been a little over a month and I can say I am just about ready to be back. There are countless things I miss about being at my school but these are my current outstanding grievances with home and the struggle of a four-month summer vacation.

1. I miss no one questioning where I am going and if I will be home for dinner.

Giphy

Walking to the dining hall after class or splurging on some ramen and calling it a balanced meal seems a nonideal scenario but somehow I have come to miss these things. Receiving the "will you be home for dinner" or "what are you going to eat" texts have slowly become a little old.

2. It's lonely not living with 200 girls at all times.

Giphy

After residing in an all-girls dorm for the majority of the year, it has been an interesting transition not to hear constant loud laughter or Post Malone being blasted over a speaker at all hours of the day. I miss not being able to walk down the hall to my best friends and complain about my day.

3. My mom doesn't understand modern day terms

Giphy

When I decide to throw out the word "extra" or "boujee" my mom looks at me like I'm speaking a foreign language. The other day she asked me to translate what "those are sick" meant when my brother referred to a cool pair of shoes.

4. I have been forced to wear my own clothing

Giphy

I have to face the reality that I have no one else to borrow clothes from on a daily basis so I must wear the clothing I own. This also leads me to confront the reality of realizing I like other peoples clothing more than my own.

5. I no longer have a valid excuse to watch Netflix for hours on end

Giphy

After a long day of classes and work or a rainy Sunday morning after a long weekend, I felt like I deserved to binge watch weird Netflix shows for hours. Now, spending the same amount of time watching these shows feels like I'm missing out on some wonderful summer day.

6. It's become even more clear how broke I am

Giphy

Using my meal swipes at school is easy because I cant see how much it costs and I don't have to whip out my credit card. Being home, I have to confront the fact that everything costs money which is something I do not seem to have an abundance of at the moment.

7. My family doesn't find me as amusing as my school friends

Giphy

At school the people I'm surrounded by laugh at all the mistakes and stupid things I do which seems to make everything a little better. At home, when I lose my house key or get locked out it doesn't seem to come across as funny...

8. The normal night life seems to be movie nights with my dog

Giphy

While I love a good movie night, nothing compares to late night adventures or the classic frat party with your best friends watching Chad and Brad make fools of themselves.

9. INDEPENDENCE

Giphy

Nothing compares to the freedom of being on your own making all decisions for yourself and feeling like a real grown up.

10. Last but not least, the most insane and amazing friends

Giphy

Do not get me wrong I LOVE my friends at home so so very much and wish I could take them all back to school. But I now have a whole other group of people I love 500 miles away that I'm used to seeing every day and I miss them loads.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
