Dating fads have come and gone and with old fashioned, chivalrous dating fading fast, society is turning to phone apps to compensate for the fast paced lives and hookup culture of young twenty-somethings. With all of the emphasis placed on perfecting our social media accounts, why not put our hard work into the quest of potentially finding the one?
Glimpse, the newest online dating app which officially launched today through the App Store, connects you with potential mates based on the shared interests and perspectives projected through your Instagram account. It takes more than solely your location and likes on Facebook into account, unlike apps such as Tinder, and tries to match you with people you would actually enjoy talking with based on multiple shared experiences.
The company uses the angle that “with photos, it's never been easier to break the ice” which is most of the battle when starting a new relationship. Since your Instagram has been in use for at least a year or more, it uses your history of experiences and locations as a means of finding the basic shared commonalities with someone who is either local or worldwide. Though this doesn’t mean that anyone who ate at the same restaurant as you two years ago can automatically connect with you. It uses the same basic principle as other dating apps where a connection is based on the mutual interest and approval of both parties.
This opens the doors for learning how to connect with someone based on his or her overall lifestyle rather than up to five carefully chosen pictures that can easily be misleading. Hopefully this will usher in a new era of less superficiality when it comes to dating and the whole process can be enhanced one filter at a time.
