Giving My Life Away

All I said was "yes."

Giving My Life Away
MC McCarthy

Life is an adventure and I’m a walking testimony. One moment, everything could be going so extremely well and you’re happy beyond words. Another moment, you catch yourself in what seems like an abyss of chaos, uncertainty and frustration.

Life is an adventure, so place purpose in your perspective.

The moment you consider life abundant, regardless of the highest high you’re feeling or the lowest low, your perspective changes. First and foremost, I make it a priority of mine to think thankfully. Over time this has shifted my bad days into days that I grew strong enough to handle head on. The only reason I had this perspective change which lead to a change in behavior, is because I said yes. Yes to a promise that will last forever. I said yes to walking alongside a God that is so much greater than my little problems and my huge hoorays.

Whole heartily, I’m giving my life away to the one who wrote it. Thankfully, I’m giving my life away to the one who knew me before I knew myself. Happily, I’m giving my life away to the one who so carefully crafted the mountains and the sea around me.

That one “yes” has changed my life in ways unimaginable. I’ve been able to find my worth and identity. I’ve recognized that it’s OK not to be perfect. We are all differently broken and in need of a savior. I’ve been able to recognize the abundance of grace placed so specifically in my life and freely receive that same grace. Life is no longer a day-by-day to-do list where I am only trying to get things done but life has become a day-by-day journey where I can grow as a person and where I can grow in relationship with Christ.

Life is an adventure, so trust in Him.

Really fully trust Him, give Him not just a fraction of your heart but everything. Surrender to His will and His way because it is perfect and it is pleasing (Romans 12:2).

Life is an adventure, so obey and honor Him through your sacrifices.

This one, this is hard for some people. Sometimes, myself included. It can be exhausting always trying to please someone; the Lord included! But y’all. Do you remember what He did through His son? Do you realize the extremity to the sacrifice He made for us? Constant sinners… some who don’t even acknowledge him and some who harshly curse him name? Remember all that He’s done because He is gracious and compassionate. Honor Him through everything you do as if doing it for Him and not mankind (Colossians 3:23). He is so good to me that I can’t help but want to give him everything I’ve got.

Life is an adventure because He already won.

He has battled the war of sin and death. He has won for eternity. Fear was trampled and put to shame. Call out to Him and find rest in His name! John 1:5 says:

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”

For the King of all Kings and Lord of all Lords, I will surely give my life away.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
