When You Give A Girl A Big

It's so much more than just a sorority title.

Having a Big in your sorority is an experience everyone has, yet it is totally different for every girl involved. Being a Little is such a blessing, and having a big is something you can't explain, but you also know you wouldn't be able to live without. When you give a girl a Big, you give her so many things, which I can't put into words perfectly, but I'll definitely try. My Big is all of these things to me, and so many more.

When you give a girl a Big....

You give her a confidant.

A Big is someone you can talk to about everything, and you know she will never break your trust. She is the first person you think of talking to when something good happens, because you know she will be proud of you. And when something bad happens, as bad things do inevitably come around, she is the one that will hold you when you cry, and remind you of all the ways things can only get better from here.

You give her a role model.

I know in my case at least, my big is someone who I hope to gain at least a few, if not more, of her amazing characteristics from. She is someone who shows you how to act, not only within your chapter, but also in the real world. Once you get a Big, it's easier to imagine how you will respond to life and its challenges because you get to watch her succeed.

You give her an adventure buddy.

Before I even knew my big was my own, we went on a Sheetz run at midnight, well beyond when I normally consider going out. Your Big is always down to hang out with you, and she's the first person you think of when you make plans. She's the one you brave socials with, and the one that laughs as you fail at playing video games. Your Big is the one you always want to sit next to, and if you're anything like me, cuddle with because of the closeness you share.

You give her a family.

Not only do you get a Big sister, but you get a whole family line to get support from. These ladies have chosen each other, and in a way, they have chosen you. They will always be there for you, no matter what happens. When you fall, they will be there to pick you up. And when you succeed, they will be there for you, most likely cheering the loudest out of anyone.

You give her a future bridesmaid.

I already can't imagine my wedding day without my Big standing next to me. There are very few other people I would want to stand beside me on one of the biggest days of my life. Plus, I know she will help me pick my dress, and won't complain too much if the bridesmaids' dresses are awful. You spend your wedding surrounded by people you love, and I know without a doubt my Big belongs in that lineup.

You give her a best friend for life.

When you give a girl a Big, it's so much more than just a title. You give her a friend you know she can always rely on, and you never have to doubt where you stand in her eyes. Even when you make mistakes, she won't abandon you, rather she will be there to guide you to a better choice for the next time. You give her a best friend that she will cherish for the rest of her life.

My Big has changed my life in so many ways, and I know I wouldn't be the same without her. I am so thankful to get to share our amazing sisterhood, and I hope that the rest of our time together only strengthens our bonds further and allows us many more memories. Big, I love you more than you'll ever know, you've changed me for the better, and I can't wait until I see you again.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
