Anyone who knows me can tell you I have an unhealthy obsession with Hamilton, The Musical - I'm pretty sure my boyfriend is tired of hearing about me talk about Hamilton at this point. I am that person who will make a connection to Hamilton no matter what the scenario is. Mention roshambo around me and I will immediately say go man go. Say a word in the Hamilton soundtrack and I follow up with the line from the show. I really can't help it - most of the time I'll say it to myself or to one of my best friends who know the show as well as I do. It's a phenomenon that's swept the nation and is continuing to sweep the nation. In fact over Thanksgiving break Hamilton broke the records for any Broadway show and made 3.3 million dollars (#boycottHamilton seems to really be working y'all). Following Thanksgiving break on December 2nd the Hamilton Mixtapes came out, which is the real reason I'm writing this.
Hamilton Mixtapes is a star studded album that I love so much and here's why:
Number One:
The Collaborations: Watsky, User, Kelly Clarkson, The Roots, Jimmy Fallon, Wiz Khalifa and many many more.
Need I say more?
Number Two:
Congratulations
This beautiful song was originally cut from the show which is heartbreaking but makes an appearance in the Mixtapes much to the happiness of the fans.
Number Three:
Demos
Lin gave us more than I could have hoped for. He was like you get a demo and you get a demo.
Number Four:
It's not just covers.
It's covers sure but it's also raps that were written for the Mixtapes specifically that are centered around a song from the show. "It's about a 50-50 mix of covers and inspired-bys." - Lin Manuel Miranda
Number Five:
Lines like: Next time you write about my lack of moral compass, At least I do my job up in this rumpus (Watsky) and The path to perfection is rarely achieved I head in that direction, I dream and believe (The Roots).
This whole album is filled with kick-ass lines that I can't even begin to tell you about.
Number Six:
We still get that hip-hop, rap, classic Broadway sound.
It puts a genre of music that normally isn't shared on a Broadway stage. Rock n' Roll along with classical music has taken the stage for years now it's rap and hip-hop's time on the stage.
Number Seven:
It's brings together artists and celebrities from an eclectic mix of genres and backgrounds.
Diversity is important to Lin and he proved that in this Mixtape. He pulled people from several different genres to work together and create something beautiful.
Number Eight:
The concept came from someone who really cares about what he does so you know you're going to get the best of the best for this.
Number Nine:
I'm Hamilton trash so of course I'm going to love Hamilton Mixtapes.
