Accountability partners -- they are the ones that are always going to be there for you, even at your absolute worst times. That's what they're there for; they see when you're struggling, and they help to pull you back up onto your feet. This semester, the girls of my social club decided to set up accountability partners. We chose whoever we wanted and were encouraged to meet up, talk about life and continuously hold each other accountable.
So what exactly is an accountability partner? It is someone that you can share your struggles with. It is someone that not only is going to be there for you when you are down, but is going to bring you back up as well. It is someone that you can rely on to help you grow in your walk with God. Being an accountability partner means that you are going to take time to pray for each other. You are going to be able to talk about the hard things, sometimes even things that you don't realize you struggle with until you say them out loud. And you are going to be committed to pushing each other to be the best Christians you can be.
I chose to be accountability partners with two of my closest friends on campus, and I am so thankful for them. Although we just started this semester and haven't gotten together a whole lot, I can already see the changes that it is making in my life. We get together each week to have a bible study, keep each other updated on the things that are happening in our lives and set goals for each other. This week, our goals have been to spend some time daily in prayer and to focus on caring more for others than for ourselves. We check up on each other to see how our goals are coming along and encourage each other throughout the week. Because of this, I have felt more positive, more connected with my friends and more caring towards those around me.
If I could give a piece of advice to any Christian in college, it would be to find an accountability partner. Find someone that is going to build you up, encourage you and push you towards being a stronger Christian. Find someone that is willing to tell you when you are wrong but will do it lovingly. Find someone that you can trust to listen to your struggles and help you lean on God during your hardest times. Find someone and grow with them.
