Dear You,
Yes, you. I see you. You’re the girl who loves everyone “too much,” or at least that’s what society tells you. You have a big heart that you wear on your sleeve, and you love people hard and fast. You are so ready to give that love away to almost anyone who you come into contact with, well anyone except the most important person of all, yourself. I know you, because I am you.
No matter how many times we say it, or how many inspirational quotes we read, learning to love ourselves is probably the hardest thing that we will ever have to do. But, it is also the most important thing that we will ever do. We have to learn to love ourselves for what and who we are at this moment in time. I know that cane be hard, especially when you think about all of the reasons you think that people should not love you, all of your shortcomings and failures that you see. The truth is, that the majority of the time, people do not see those things the way that we do.
One thing that I have learned over the 19 and a half years that I have been on this world, is that most of the time, people want to see the good in others. They try and earnestly look for the good in others and that’s why people love you. That is why you need to learn to love yourself. People see good in you, and you need to start seeing the good in yourself too.
It is OK to not be perfect, it is okay to be broken, and it is more than OK to love yourself right where you are. I know that in the past people have left you. People, who swore up and down that they would be there for you until the very end, no matter what. Those people hurt you and kept you from loving yourself in the past. If someone who knew you, and knew all of your short-comings cannot love you, then why should you love yourself?
The answer is simple. You should love yourself because you deserve great love. You deserve life-changing and earth shattering love. You deserve the love that can only be found in God the Father, and you deserve to love yourself in that way. Loving yourself is hard, yes, but so, so necessary. To quote "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" (yes, I know it’s cheesy, just bear with me) “we accept the love we think we deserve.” We need to realize that we deserve great love, and we deserve to love ourselves in that way.
So, you, whoever you are, please realize your worth. Realize that you deserve great love. Recognize that love in others and in yourself and start to love yourself that way.
Love,
A girl who is learning to love herself too.
