To The Girl I Was In High School, It Won't Last Forever

Go ahead and scream "Fifteen" by Taylor Swift at the top of your lungs and cry with your best friend because it describes your freshman year.

Dear me,

You worth is not based on what a stupid high school boy makes you feel like it is. You do not need the newest iPhone or shoes or purse to fit in. You should not have to look a certain way to make friends. Do not get involved in the petty drama of high school. Be nice to everyone and don't judge others based on what they have or what they wear.

You don't need to have 30 good friends when you can have 2 or 3 best friends. Quality is better than quantity.

Be patient. The right friends will come. The right boy will come. Don't waste your time on boys who will end up doing nothing with their lives. Wait for the right one. He will come I promise and when he does you'll regret every boy you dated in high school. He will treat you in a way that they never did. He will love and respect you and treat you like a princess.

He won't make you feel like your value is in if you put out or not. He will actually listen to you and respect your opinions. He will text you back more than 2 times a day. He will help you grow and not hold you back. He will tell you how beautiful you are and he will actually mean it. Wait for this one. Don't waste your time trying to get the attention of a boy who is entertaining 5 other girls and only wants you when he isn't talking to one of them. He is not worth your time.

You don't want friends who talk about you behind your back no matter how popular you or they think they are. You don't want friends who will tell your business to others. Wait for the friend that is there for you at 2 p.m. when you wanna eat fast food and jam out in the car and the one that's there for you at 2 a.m. when you can't stop crying and just need someone to talk to because another stupid high school boy broke your heart.

Wait for the friend that even when you don't see each other for a long time it's like nothing changed when you see each other again and you pick up right where you left off.

Don't be mean to your mom. When you get to college you will call her every day and miss her like crazy. You'll end up crying because you're so homesick. You will need her when you need to make appointments, when you don't know what is the difference between the onions at the store and you need them to cook dinner and the recipe just calls for 1 onion, and when you are walking back from class and want to tell her about this ridiculous professor you have. She will love you unconditionally so be nice to her.

She is trying her best just like you are.

The life you have in high school is not the life you'll have forever. People change, you'll change too and for the better. Everyone has to grow up and move on. Go ahead and scream Fifteen by Taylor Swift at the top of your lungs and cry with your best friend because it describes your freshman year. Go to Prom and Homecoming. Participate in spirit week and cheer on your school's sports teams.

Enjoy your high school years because they don't last forever.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
