When Kate Middleton came into the American spotlight, I was immediately captivated with her. Every girl in the world wishes she could be in her position: married to a prince and in line to be a queen of one of the most powerful countries in the world.
There are few people in the world that girls have as role models to look up to, and the number is continuously dwindling as tabloids dig deeper into celebrities' lives. In Britain, Kate Middleton is a star, with tabloids going crazy for the Royal Family that she's now a major part of. The greatest thing about her is that for the few years that she's been in the spotlight, she hasn't had any sort of bad press: no DUI's, no bar fights, no scandals.
As a person, she's radiant and definitely a positive role model for girls around the world. She lands at the top of my list of girl crushes, and here's why:
1. Her charity work.
Being a part of such an idolized and iconic family, of course she has plenty of money to do charity work. In fact, the Royal Family is almost expected to! When Kate does charity work, however, she seems to genuinely love it. You can see her passion for helping others and how much she wants to make a difference in their lives. She does so much more than just signing a check to give as a donation; she actually gets out there often and visits hospices across the world.
2. She's just normal.
Kate is one of the few non-royals that have married into the family. Her parents were air hostesses and she just happened to meet William at college. But you can tell that she really, genuinely loves William, rather than only marrying him for the fame or wealth. Also, she's frequently seen walking her adorable dog, Lupo!
3. She's a family girl.
Kate didn't ditch her family and upgrade for the Royal Family. In fact, it was her side that visited George first, and the first few weeks of his life were spent at her family home: the Middleton's Buckleberry Manor. She also honors William's family, trying very hard to honor Diana — in fact, she even wore her tiara to a ball this last year.
4. Her style is flawless.
Kate's style is the epitome of classy yet stylish and she has an impeccable taste in fashion. Even though she has access to the royal funds, world-renown personal shoppers and major designers, she still shops at 'normal' fashion places like Zara and Topshop. In fact, designers clamor to work with her and send her free clothing, but she refuses to accept them.
Also, just like everyone else, Kate repeats and recycles outfit, unlike most celebrities!
5. She's a very hands-on mom.
Sure, they have a nanny, but Kate insists on being as close to her children as humanly possible. She even shared pictures of her son, Prince George, going to school for the first time this last week. How adorable!
6. Her personality is super relatable.
While she maintains a very classy and sophisticated act at public events, she definitely has an exciting personality and seems like she'd be a ton of fun to hang out with. She has all the grace and poise of a queen, but she can party like Pippa! Remember how much fun she was having at the Olympics in London? She's also a former college girl — if Kate becomes queen, she will be the first British monarch with a degree (2:1 History of Art from St. Andrews)!
Also, she's got plenty of sass. In the face of the tabloids, she's constantly hounded by them, and in the early years of her and William's relationship, they taunted her about William taking his time to propose! But, she's been getting her revenge — gracefully and discreetly, of course, just like a queen. She went through enormous lengths to have the media wait to find out who her wedding dress's designer! She also teased the world with vague due dates, causing the media to stand outside in record-breaking heat, waiting for the royal baby's arrival!
7. William and Kate are total relationship goals.
The Royal Couple are absolutely adorable! They have matching jackets, they're commonly seen in public as very close together (and their love for each other is obvious) and there are plenty of pictures where they give each other loving looks. William proposed to Kate next to a remote lake on Mount Kenya, which was 12,000 ft. above sea level, so they had to reach it by helicopter. In their university days, Prince William claims that he often tried to impress her with his cooking skills — though she often had to rescue his attempts. He also said he "knew there was something special about her" when they first met, and the couple dressed as Scarlett O'Hara and Rhett Butler for their final May ball at St. Andrews University! How adorable is that?
Kate Middleton will forever be my top girl crush and role model as she continues to be such a classy, sophisticated woman. She's an inspiration for every girl around the world!
