Recently in the news, female pop star, Selena Gomez, has been seeing musician The Weeknd. If this wasn't already enough of a shock, there's more. Gomez is knowingly dating the man who dated one of her...BEST FRIENDS, Bella Hadid, for TWO YEARS. Not a week, not a month, not one year but TWO.
This entire situation really has me upset with Selena. I love her for many reasons, but this is a little shocking. She is a mental health activist, she's beautiful, funny, and talented...but she broke girl code. You never, I repeat never, date a best friend's ex without her consent. Girl code has been around for centuries. Sure people break it, but Gomez barely waited a few months.
She went for the kill immediately. Regardless of her friend's feelings and regardless of the fact that (according to the article on the DailyMail that I read) Hadid was still pretty hurt about her breakup with The Weeknd. Selena even went as far as giving her dating advice while the pair were still together.
Honestly, true friends just don't do that. Bella is hot and deserves better than that. You don't just stab your BFF in the back like that. Break ups are painful enough as it is, not to even mention that she's famous and it was broadcasted to the whole world. Now...mix in the fact that ALSO her friend stole her ex-boyfriend.
Personally, though, I don't understand the hype about The Weeknd. I mean sure, he's got a sexy voice and his lyrics are pretty mesmerizing too...but he's not that attractive. Before his haircut, it looked like he had a bird growing on the top of his head.
Basically what I'm trying to say is people need to be more considerate of others. Love hurts, friendships hurt and so do breakups. Mixing all three of them together doesn't turn out to be the best situation. I guess this situation teaches us that friends can still be backstabbing, even in the celebrity world. It reminds me to always be cautious and make sure to surround myself with only the best of people/friends because I'm not about to have my BFF's breaking girl code.
