Diamonds are great and all, and I will definitely take one if offered to me, but truthfully, they aren't number one in my heart. If I had to pick a number one, besides God, dogs would definitely be at the top of my list.
Since I was born, I have never not had a dog around in my life, and I am truly thankful for that. My dogs are practically my babies and I treat them as such.
Buying a dog with my boyfriend was honestly one of the most rewarding feelings because, though I've had them, I've never actually owned my own.
Puppies are just drop dead adorable making practically anyone fall in love with just one picture, but that's only a small portion of why dogs are so important, I feel, to have in life.
1. They are always there.
Whether you are sitting down, trying to eat your ice cream or crying because of your breakup, your sweet pup always seems to be right there ready to comfort you, or steal your food. When I need a hug for any reason, most of the time I'll grab one of my sweet fur babies and that's enough for me. I have three sweet little pups, one huge guard dog, who is actually one big baby, and my fur baby. Spoiled doesn't even begin to describe my dogs, mostly because they sometimes have a better life than I do. (For Christmas, they actually got more presents than I did, but that's just because they're so much cheaper, according to my mom)
2. They are the best listeners.
As funny as it may seem, think about it: the best listeners are almost always normally the ones who can't respond, mostly because they also can't interrupt you while you are ranting and raving. If you are feeling down, mad, or angry and you just want someone to listen to you, chances are, having a dog in the room just to keep you company is always helpful. On the other hand, if your dog is trained and you just want to feel like you have some form of control in your life, having them run through their little tricks is also pretty rewarding.
3. They just want you to be happy.
I don't think any dog is born with the idea of making your life hell; that just seems to happen on its own. But I do feel that your dogs just want you to be happy. When the human is happy, our dogs are probably happy as well. When we're happy, we tend to be more loving and generous to our animals at home, lots of treats and belly rubs are definitely the key to all of my dogs' hearts. Though they may only follow me around when I have food (or I am the only one home), I'm always more than happy to make my sweet babies happy, and by doing that normally, it makes me a happier person.
I definitely could not imagine life without my fur babies to cuddle with, but also to teach me about the responsibility it takes to care for another living thing.
And I really can't wait until I can get my next one to spoil rotten.
