Gilmore Girl's Sweet 16: A Tribute to Luke's Diner

Gilmore Girl's Sweet 16: A Tribute to Luke's Diner

It was a normal day of me laying in my bed when my friend sent me a link with the words "Stars Hollow" in it. Every Gilmore Girl's fan knows these two words well considering we watched Rory grow up in this small town in Connecticut. I clicked the link and it said something along the lines of a Luke's Diner coming to a town near you. In the small town of Geneseo, nothing is ever coming near me. As I searched down the list I saw two locations in Rochester and it was settled. I got my roommate on board and we were going.

Wednesday October 5, 2016

6:00am

I woke up to the sound of my alarm, as did a bunch of Gilmore Girls fans knowing that we had to get to our location early before a line formed. Luke's would be serving free coffee for 5 hours starting at 7am and I had to get my cup before the day ended. Granted I had a test at 11:30 but it didn't matter much to me. We hit the road, and were off on our 40 minute drive to a random coffee shop in Rochester that stood as Luke's for the times being. Flannel and backwards hat on fleek.

6:40am

Sunrise.

7:12am

We made our arrival and the line was already out the door and circling around. Great. On the line we realize that we might be here for hours. We don't have hours until our classes but that's okay. This will be worth it.

8:00am

We are still waiting.

8:30am

Still waiting.

8:42am

I can see into the coffee shop. There is a sign on the door saying that if I don't agree to Netflix's terms and conditions do not enter. Obviously life is too short to read the directions and this was a risk I was willing to take. We entered the door and the oh so familiar "No Cell Phones" sign was there to greet us. One by one we got our cup of black coffee covered in a Luke's coffee sleeve. This is the moment we have all been waiting for. The smell of coffee beans was every where and the cups in our hands was enough to warm us back up because the line outside had made us cold. We took our coffees to go and were en route home. But not without taking 13430743 pictures first.

9:15am

Caffeine high kicks in. Mistakes were made. BUT I got a free snapchat filter.

To say the least, this was every Gilmore Girls lover's dream. The revival is a little over a month away, the updates keep coming, and the excitement just keeps growing. Until we meet again Gilmore Girls.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
