"Well, I believe it's those adorable Gilmore Girls" - Rory Gilmore.
I think I can say this on behalf of all "Gilmore Girls" fans: Gilmore Girls is coming back on November 25, and I've already canceled any special plans with my family on Thanksgiving because I will be basking on those four episodes for the entire day.
That's right. Earlier this year it was announced that Netflix would do a four part revival of "Gilmore Girls" starring Lauren Graham and Alex Bledel with its original creator and head writer, Amy Sherman-Palladino. The original core cast is due to come back as well for more episodes of this much loved series.
As part of their announcement, Netflix dropped a small tidbit of what is in store for this revival. Below is the teaser published by Netflix:
From what you can see, years may pass but the essence of what made this show so lovable hasn't changed one bit. The same fast paved dialogue, cultural references and sweet banter between mother and daughter could be easily felt in this minute and a half clip. It gives the viewer a great sense of comfort to know that the mother-daughter due will be back for more this coming Fall.
There will also be a plethora of new characters as well as old characters making appearances throughout the four mini-movie episodes representing the four seasons: Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer.
I've personally had a loving affinity to this particular show and can only speak from my own point of view. However, the more I speak about this show to there people I've realized that they all share the same opinion as me on this. Why is this show so loved and popular? What makes people want more of it despite its having ended so long ago? The answer is simple: the realness of the characters.
In the midst of the angst and tragedy currently being broadcast on television, be it well written angst, sometimes people need shows like "Gilmore Girls" that ride that fine line between comedy and drama that is filled with so much hope and lightheartedness. It is in this type of story that gives way for stories about the every day person to shine through and give people a little happiness in their viewing experience. Also, the narrative of a single mother and her daughter is still lacking in mainstream television that people still yearn to see these two women in a whole new time frame. It is still Lorelai and Rory Gilmore, just a little more mature and with updated cultural references.
Come November 25, everyone with a Netflix account will be able to enjoy the "four seasons" story of arc of this revival and reminisce on what made this story so loved to begin with.
