My question is why does the media have so many double standards? Headlines about women are 100% different compared to men. If a women is naked, they will make a headline about her being a "slut." If a man is naked, they'll make the headline about how attractive he is. If a women is drinking, they'll say she's "out of control." But if a man is drinking, they'll say he's just having a good time at a club. WHY DO WOMEN GET TREATED LIKE THIS? Many people say that there's equality but there's not. We have come a long way compared to what it use to be like but there's still a mountain to climb.
On Thursday, September 22nd, model Gigi Hadid was walking to her car after a fashion show in Italy. The twenty-one year old was surrounded by paparazzi and even body guards. But at the right moment: a stupid man who likes to prank celebrities, came up behind her, grabbed and picked her up. Gigi sprang into action and elbowed him in the face, making him drop her. She proceeded to go after him when he ran away. Gigi was protecting herself from a stranger who randomly grabbed her and picked her up. She was standing up for herself while she was in danger. Who knows what he could have done.
After this incident happened, many many headlines began to pop up about it. Not the headlines you would think. Headlines like this one from Daily Mail Celebrity said "Furious Gigi Hadid LASHES OUT at man who tries to physically pick her up." HOW IN ANY WAY DID SHE LASH OUT WHEN A STRANGER RANDOMLY GRABBED HER? If that was a male who was grabbed, the headlines would not be saying that at all. What if that was your daughter, sister, mother? Would you want her to just be picked up and do nothing?! This stranger literally took her off her feet, how else was she suppose to fight back? The fact headlines are saying she "lashed out" is disgusting. It should say she protected herself. She did what had to be done.
I applaud and love Gigi Hadid even more now because of this incident. People can't just go around doing this to women. They have no right. It's also not okay that there are headlines blaming Gigi for attacking the stranger. People need to change their headlines regarding women. People need to change their attitudes regarding women. People need to change the way they treat women. It's not okay.
To all the women, stand up for yourselves whenever you feel it's necessary. Don't let anyone take control of your body or mind. Don't hesitate to defend and protect yourself when you feel you should. There is absolutely nothing wrong with defending yourself.

Disregard the disgusting title to this.
