Ghosted: Why He Isn't Texting You Back

We've all been there, (and if you haven't then I hate you), talking to a special someone and you think it's going great! He makes you laugh, he’s devastatingly handsome, he seems like an all around great guy (bonus points if he’s good in bed). It feels like it could actually turn into something other than a casual hookup, and then... ~nothing~. Radio silence. No texts. No snapchats. No more Instagram likes or flirtatious twitter favorites. They've simply disappeared from your life.

GHOSTED. You've been ghosted.

That's right, there's an actual term for what keeps happening to you (if you're crazy like me and my girlfriends).

When I first heard this term a few months ago from one of my roommates, I thought her mom had made it up during one of her inspirational chats. As it turns out, IT’S AN ACTUAL THING RIGHT NOW. It's all over the place. And when you think about it, it actually makes a lot of sense and I can't believe we haven't come up with this sooner.

If you’ve drawn the short stick in the ghosting game, like me, you start to feel pretty shitty about yourself. What could I have possibly done to scare this guy off? Everything was so great yesterday, and now nothing? You’re left with so many unanswered questions when you’re ghosted. Guys think if they just stop all contact with us, we'll maybe just get the hint. Oh we get the hint, we're just pissed about it.

However I guess if you're the one doing the ghosting this is a pretty great gig. You go rouge and never have to deal with giving an explanation. It’s an easy out. Until you awkwardly run into the person and they call you out… then you’re kind of screwed.

I'm deeming myself a ghosting expert now, seeing as how I've been lucky enough to have had it happen to me numerous times (guess I should get the hint and check myself into the nut house). But for the life of me I still can’t figure out why. I’m crazy but I’m not “steal your car and slash your tires” crazy. But I can honestly say, the times I’ve been ghosted, I’ve done nothing crazy to warrant it!

The best time was an actual physical ghosting. That's right folks, an in person ghosting. A very rare and risky maneuver, achieved by only the slimiest of f**k boys. While walking home from a formal, I thought my date was behind me smoking a cig (YUCK) but when I turned around to say something, he was nowhere to be found. I frantically called 19 times... And never heard from him again. Yikes.

For the sake of my sanity I hope this trend passes quickly. I'd like to go back to getting a reason for being dumped.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
