As a kid, waking up on a snow day and checking to see if school was canceled or peeking out the window to see if there was snow on the ground was equivalent to the excitement of waking up on Christmas morning. Snow days as a kid were basically a holiday; no school, hanging out with the neighborhood kids, staying out all day and night, and coming home after playing outside all day to a movie and hot chocolate. But then high school came around and you were stuck in your house for days on end with no escape. Your parents were cranky and home from work and convinced you to spend your snow days cleaning and doing homework when you would much rather be hanging out with your friends.
It wasn't until college that snow days started becoming fun again. Here's why:
1. If you live on campus, you can start massive snow ball fights in your quad or outside of your dorm.
The potential for massive snowball fights and sledding adventures are endless and give you the perfect excuse for a study break. Be careful though, they can get a little intense.
2. Your professors will almost always cancel class.
If they don't want an inbox full of hate mail, chances are your prof. is going to cancel class. If not living on campus is great because you don't have to worry about transportation too and from class.
3. You're snowed in with your closest friends/roommates.
With all of your friends and roommates different schedule's, spending good old quality time together can be hard to do. But, with a snow day you're forced to be together for hours, or days at a time. And if everyone's down to have a little old school fun, midnight sledding is the perfect snow day activity.
4. You have time to actually accomplish things you have been putting off.
College is a big balancing act and sometimes you just need a few days (or a snow storm) to get your life together. Being snowed in gives you the perfect opportunity to clean, do laundry, or catch up on some studying. Just because you don't have class doesn't mean you can't be productive.
5. In good old college fashion, getting snowed in with your friends Franzia and DiGiorno can make for a good story.
Snow days and the weekend, basically the same thing, right? Who said a snow day isn't a good excuse for a little party. I mean, in college everything is a good excuse for a party; snow days are no different.
6. Stocking up on junk food and movies is also a great way to spend a snow day.
If you're prepared with a lot of food, movies and a Netflix account, snow days can be therapeutic and relaxing.
All in all, snow days in college are a great excuse to eat a lot of junk food, throw a party, watch movies, or be productive. And of course, you're never too old to go sledding or host a massive snow ball fight.
