Get Your Life Together

If you’re like me, the mere title of this article makes you laugh, because you know that you’ll never even get close to having your life together. Calendars, notebooks, day planners, sticky notes; I’ve tried it all. I bought my first planner in the 3rd grade (don’t ask me why an eight year old needs a planner because I’m still at a loss myself) and carried it around with me everywhere for a grand total of three weeks. After that, it was buried in the tornado of my room.

Being the unorganized girl in an organized world is hard. We all have that friend who color codes literally everything, or the friend who has to “let me check my calendar” every five seconds and has their life scheduled down to the second. I don’t know how they do it; I’m just trying to remember which shoe goes on which foot! The idea of being organized sounds a lot more glamorous than the steps it actually takes to get there.

Here’s the thing, though, organization is crucial. Without it, we'll constantly be one step behind, trying to pick up all the pieces of our life we forgot to put in order. It’s part of being put together and professional. When scheduling a dinner with your significant other's Mom, landing a job interview, or planning an important birthday brunch for your BFF, you don't want to mix up dates and details. Showing up late and disheveled or not showing up at all demonstrates disrespect for the person you are meeting or the event you are attending. On a smaller scale, due dates, birthdays, doctors appointments, grocery lists, and homework can all be forgotten if you fail to maintain order in your life. Although this is frightening to the organizationally inept people like myself, who now all of the sudden wonder how they're going to survive, there is hope.

Recently, I was introduced to a woman who may just be the queen of all things cute and organizational. Her name is Erin Condren. OK, I didn’t actually meet her, but I met her website, which is almost the same, right? Anyways, Erin is fabulous, and so are her chic products! I was recommended Erin’s Life Planner, so that’s exactly what I got! And let me tell you, I'm in love.

Ladies, this is the planner of our dreams, the planner that will make all of us into the orderly people we’ve always envied! Under the personalized classic tab on the website, I purchased the Watercolor Palette design with a vertical weekly layout. I know what you might be thinking, "here we go again, ANOTHER planner that will get inevitably pushed aside." But I have extremely high hopes for this one, it’s unlike any of the planners I’ve ever attempted to use before! Starting with a customizable cover, each month is laid out, followed by each week, with space for goals to be written, notes to be taken, and personalized stickers to further outline your schedule. There are inspirational quotes, super cute extra note pages, and special pockets to “keep it all together.” On top of all the technical stuff, the planner just looks absolutely beautiful! Each page is ultra-colorful and has such sweet floral designs. To all my unorganized ladies out there, I’d definitley head over to erincondren.com and look into purchasing your very own Life Planner, or any of the other fabulous items from her line. They will change your life!

Organization does not come easy to me, but with my Erin Condren planner, hopefully it’ll come just a little bit easier. Wish me luck!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
