Summer break is just right around the corner any everybody knows what that means. Fun in the sun and for many of us going to the beach. Now's the time to start working on those summer beach bods. So, here are some ways and tips on how to get in shape to fit into those swim trunks and bikinis.
Running
Running is a great way to slim down and burn those extra pounds right off. Running from half an hour to and hour a day is an easy way to shed those extra pounds off. You will also feel revitalized after getting a few miles in. My recommendation though is to either go in the morning or at night to avoid the hot midday heat that can lead to all kinds of problems.
Lifting Weights
Lifting weights is a great way to add strength and shape your body. Either research and come up with a routine ahead or time or hire the services of a trainer prior to starting a lifting regimen so you don’t go into the gym not knowing what you are going to do. It’s important to train according to what goals you want to accomplish. If you want to get toned then lift lighter weights for more reps and if you are trying to build mass then less reps and higher weights. I recommend lifting weights 3 to 4 days a week for it to be effective.
Boxing
Boxing is one of my favorite sports and is also a great workout. Go grab some hand wraps and some gloves and you are good to go. I recommend working on a speed bag or a heavy bag if you are interested but don’t want to spar with other people. Practicing 3-minute rounds on a heavy bag is a great workout. You’ll work up a real sweat easily after a few rounds. It’s great because it’s a mix of cardio and strength training. If your gym does have any speed or heavy bags then I recommend finding a mirror and practice rounds of shadowboxing working on footwork and throwing different combinations at different angles.
Swimming
Swimming my other favorite sport is a great way to get your cardio in. It’s always fun being in the water and works the whole body. In contrast to running it’s a great alternative to those with leg and knee injuries as swimming puts less stress on your joints. Getting in the water and practicing drills and doing interval sets to raise your heart rate is a great way to burn those extra calories.
Eat Healthy and Drink Plenty of Water
All the exercise in the world won’t help if you if you don’t eat right. Its important to eat a variety of different foods from the different food groups. That means eating plenty of fruits and veggies. You also want to drink at least a gallon of water a day. The more water the better, especially in the summer with all the heat.
So these are my tips on how to get the beach bod you want for summer. Remember to stay active and train towards your goals that you are trying to accomplish your goals and p.s. remember to use sunblock before you go to the beach.
