Do you know how there are those friends who always seem to be lying to you about something? They say they're busy when really they just didn't want to hang out with you? They tell you they aren't dating someone that they know they shouldn't be with and then you discover that sometimes they cancelled plans with you to spend time with that person? They tell you that they're better off than they are in life to seem better than you, or vice versa and they want your pity when nothing is actually wrong. Well, it's time to confront those people in your life. Figure out who's really there for you. It's hard to decide how to handle these things, though, so here are three very simple ways that may help.
1. Call them out!
Don't let them get away with the lies they're feeding you and everyone else. If they say they were in one place but you know (with factual evidence) that they were not there, speak up! For example, if they tell you they were at home all night, just tell them how you had in fact gone over to their house and discovered for yourself that they weren't there. It's hard to keep up a lie if evidence shows it's not true.
2. Tell them no!
If they're constantly asking you for things but never giving you even a thank you for everything you do for them, it's time to tell them no. If they continuously ask you to take them somewhere but don't even offer to pay you back for gas money, or they always seem to be $5 short for lunch, stop saying yes! You know they won't pay you back. Be straight forward with them about why you can't continue to spot them anymore. Friendships are not supposed to be one-sided, and while giving your friends rides is not a bad thing in itself, it's an added issue where it seems like your fake friend only cares about your existence when you have something they want.
3. Be wary of everything they tell you.
At this point in the friendship, you've figured out that this person lies about 99% of the time. Therefore, whenever they tell you about anything that you weren't around to witness yourself, or nobody else is there to backup what they're saying, it's safe to say that there's a chance they're not telling the truth. However, this doesn't mean you should assume that everything they say is a lie. If you've already talked to them about the lies you know of, they may start to tell you the truth, and you want to give them the benefit of the doubt. However, it's still important to be careful about what you believe until it's been proven. If something they tell you turns out to be a
Friendships are very important, especially the ones we've formed long ago and want to hold onto. Unfortunately, some people grow apart as we grow into our new adult selves. However, some friendships do last. Some have bumps in the road, some friendships even become fake for a while. But if you can push past that and find your friendship again, you can get back to the way you were when you first became close. Sometimes it's a good thing to say bye to people, but there are other friends that you should hold onto. Even if you have a friend who seems to be acting fake and hurting you, don't just kick them to the curb. Look at the friendship from the beginning. If it's always been that way, then maybe it's a good thing you two part ways. However, if it started out genuine, then you have something to work back to. If you talk to that person and they then work on the things that hurt you, there is a chance you can be good friends again. So it's time to get real with fake friends. Maybe they're not as fake as you think. Or maybe they're worse. I guess you'll just have to find out for yourself.
