First the "Friends" cast reunited. Then the "Full House" cast came back. Now, the cast of another beloved '90s classic - well, at least part of it - is getting together on TV this year.
Entertainment Weekly reported a few weeks ago that members of Nickelodeon's "All That" will be coming together this month to reminisce on the sketch comedy show. It'll air on The Splat, TeenNick's late-night lineup of all your favorite '90s shows. My twenty-something heart can't handle all the nostalgia, but it's great. So much better than a lot of what's on TV today.
Participating in this reunion are Lori Beth Denberg, Kenan Thompson, Danny Tamberelli, Kel Mitchell and Josh Server. In that spirit, I present to you my favorite characters/sketches that include these cast members.
Lori Beth: Vital Information (for your everyday life)
Sometimes the advice didn't make sense, and sometimes it made perfect sense, but Lori Beth's delivery was always the best part. She'd be completely serious for the first few seconds, then raise her voice during the punchline, or better yet, remain serious - either way, it was great. I think my favorite has to be, "Breaking up is hard to do. Breaking a dozen eggs with a sledgehammer is fun" (not in this video).
Kenan Thomspon: Pierre Escargot
All Pierre Escargot did was sit in a bathtub and say something in French, then translate it in English. If you were a kid watching this bit, you might have thought his sentences were just silly - but if you've ever watched it after you got older, maybe high school and beyond, you probably found them even funnier. I really think Kenan should bring this back on "Saturday Night Live"; the writers could have a lot of fun with it, and the young adult crowd would love it (the nostalgia and the jokes). In this video, Pierre comes in around 3:30.
Danny: Jack Campbell, Fat Cop
Anyone who loves food appreciates this one. Literally all he did was "inspect" people's refrigerators and eat everything in sight. Didn't we all wish we could do that? Especially when it was something like chocolate, which he does in this sketch here. He comes in around 5:05.
Kel: Ed from Good Burger
Can I take your order? This sketch and his character have become iconic; he and Kenan even re-created "Good Burger" a few months ago on "The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon." I think anyone, especially in a new job, can feel clueless like Ed, which makes the sketch as funny and relatable as it is.
Josh: Bernie Kibbitz
This character was an older man who often appeared in the "Good Burger" sketches, although he was sometimes in other ones. He was usually clumsy and sometimes reminded us of our grandparents, so we could certainly relate (especially if you're Jewish). It's funny thinking about it now - his name is Bernie, he has an East Coast accent and he is somewhat bald with patches of white hair on his head. I know of another guy just like that; I think he's running for President. If you want to see what I'm talking about, check out this "Good Burger" sketch from the "All That" 10th anniversary special. He comes in around 1:00.
Needless to say, this reunion will be epic. I can't wait to hear what they all have to say, over 20 years later. Ready yet? Get set!
