A mirror's primary use is to see one's own reflection: to see one's eyes, ears, nose and every complex detail of one's face. Long before pictures and videos, this was the only method of seeing yourself. It is interesting to think about, throughout our whole life we've never actually seen ourselves in reality, with our own two eyes. We've been forced to rely on reflection. Mirrors are too often associated with things such as vanity and arrogance. However, there is much more to be discovered from your own reflection.
I’ve always been one who revels in the sight of themselves. Whenever I pass a mirror or car window, anything that can provide a clear vision of myself, I can't help but take a quick look. My friends will often joke and call me vain and conceited and honestly, there is some truth in this. I do enjoy the sight of my own face, seeing the different expressions I can make or even just seeing the color of my eyes. But what people often overlook is that your reflection does not only boil down to your looks. Sure, I enjoy looking at myself because I find myself rather handsome, but there is a much higher reason.
I have learned that my reflection has kept me grounded. It reminds me of my place in this world, that we are all individuals. I look at myself whenever I get the chance because it allows me to be more self-aware. It lets me take a step outside my body and really view myself. Not only my physical appearance, but I can reflect on my decisions. What I’ve done wrong or right, what my strengths and weaknesses are and what areas I need to improve. I guarantee it would be a lot harder to make a wrong choice if when we were making it we could see ourselves doing it.
There is an immense power that resides in the mirror. It allows us to think about ourselves, our personalities, our flaws and strengths, the whole works. It's important to take the time to notice yourself and what kind of person you are. There are few things more comforting than understanding who you are. So, don't let anyone criticize you for taking the time to truly see yourself.
