The Student Organization of the Week this week is Gamma Phi Beta, in honor of their big philanthropy event this Thursday, "Grilled Cheese with the G Phi B’s".
Gamma Phi Beta’s philanthropic mission is to build strong girls by giving girls confidence, inspiring leadership, and building spiritual, mental and social resiliency in young women.
Gamma Phi Beta proudly sponsors Girls on the Run, an international, nonprofit organization that inspires girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident. They use an experienced based program that also incorporates running. Throughout the program, girls learn life skills through self-motivated, interactive, and running games. At the end of the program, the girls run a 5K together, alongside their coaches. The program helps prepare the girls physically and emotionally to celebrate in the 5K running event, in addition to creating a lifetime appreciation of health and fitness.
For the last couple of years, the Gamma Phi’s have gone to their local Girls on the Run 5K to support and cheer on the young girls running. They participate in helping with registration and concessions to cheering on the girls with the signs they made before the race. They enjoy seeing the excitement on the girls’ faces’ when they show up probably even more than the girls enjoy having them there for support!
Every year, Gamma Phi Beta holds their philanthropic event “Grilled Cheese with the G Phi B’s” on a Thursday night at their house at 270 Langdon Street. The Gamma Phi’s sell grilled cheese to anyone that comes by, and they are delicious! The event this year is on Thursday October 1st and starts at 10 p.m. and goes until 2 a.m. All of the money that the Gamma Phi’s raise is donated to the Girls on the Run program, giving young women the opportunity to participate in the curriculum through scholarship. So whether you’re coming home from the bars or the library, be sure to stop by and support the Gamma Phi’s and their philanthropy!
The Gamma Phi's will also be selling their "Grilled Cheese" shirts this year at the event, so get them before they're gone!
