This article contains spoilers for "Game of Thrones" up to season six episode ten. Do not read this unless you are caught up.
Season six of "Game of Thrones" had an explosive season finale this last Sunday and was packed full of action. It was a very satisfying episode but we lost a lot of beloved characters. This episode was the absolute best that we have seen in a long time. The music, the acting, and the magic of a Song of Ice and Fire were all shinning for the entirety of the episode.
Kings Landing was the biggest part of the episode with the loss of a ton of main characters such as the entire Tyrell family, Kevin Lanister, and the whole faith militant. The destruction of the great sept was an incredible visual effect that shocked audiences everywhere. The way the show runners executed the build up and the explosion was flawless. Although Cersei tried to protect king Tommen with the destruction of the sept, it was ultimately for nothing because we see our young king commit suicide after witnessing his queen explode. It will be interesting to see what Cersei does now that she has been crowned queen and has the entire Lanister army at her disposal. What is even more scary about her being queen is that now that her children are dead, she has nothing to live for which could lead her to do some drastic things. The seven kingdoms are no longer safe with the Cersei on the iron throne.
Dany finally is leaving Essos and is heading for her home and place on the iron throne. This has been long awaited for six seasons now and we finally get to see the satisfying shot of her armada traveling towards westeros. What is important to note is that both the Tyrells and the Sand Snakes have sided with Dany and will add their power to Dany’s already impressive armada. With all of the power she has received there seems to be no stopping her from taking back the throne from the Lannisters.
Jon Snow is back in the game and is taking the helm for the North in the battle for the dawn. Even after being a bastard and lord commander of the night’s watch he is now the king in the north. We can all thank Lyanna Mormont for her initiative to get Jon in a position of power. Sansa is also back in the game and no longer being the victim. Unfortunately, Little Finger didn’t get to make any plays in the finale and was in fact put in his place by our lady of Winterfell Sansa. Hopefully in the next season we will see Jon take his spot as the leader for the great battle to come against the white walkers. "The King in the North!"
Some other small things happened in this episode such as Sam finally reaching Oldtown and entering the grand Library. We also learn more about the magic of the wall from Bran’s uncle Benjen. This was actually huge news to show watchers that the wall does not allow the dead to pass it. This means either the white walkers break the magic or the wall is coming down.
Book readers rejoice after years of waiting, the popular fan theory that Jon Snow is actually the child of Rhaegar Targaryan and Lyanna Stark is in fact true. This is a big deal that Jon is not the son of Ned Stark which could mean bad news for him if the people of the north find out or it could be good news because he is now the rightful king of westeros. I hope that we see a little bit more about how Lyanna was taken by Rhaegar and if they got married or if Jon is the result of something much more sinister.
Now that season is over there is a ton of room for speculation on what will happen next. Where will Dany and her armada and what will Euron Greyjoy do about it? We know that he has told his people to build one thousand ships but will it be enough to stop Dany and her army? Also now that we know the wall has to be broken down will the show bring artifacts from the books that have the power to break down the wall? If they do then hopefully Euron will have the artifact he needs to fight against Dany’s dragons.
Will Cersei continue to be a terrible ruler or will she finally try to make an alliance with someone else in westeros? With her in the position of power it is hard to know if Jamie will support her choice to kill all her remaining hope in holding the seven kingdoms. One theory is that Dany and Jon team up to fight in the battle for the dawn against the white walkers. What will Bran do now that he is the three-eyed Raven? Did somebody say warg into Dragons?
All this speculation can keep you occupied for ten months when we get to find out just what happens to the seven kingdoms. In the meantime book readers are strongly anticipating the winds of winter to release so they can have something to tide them over. We have a long time to wait so try to keep your excitment contained.
