A Letter To My Future Daughter

You will forever be loved.

A Letter To My Future Daughter
Rebecca Luisi

Hey Baby,

I’ve never met you before, but I know that you will be everything I could ever hope for.

Right now you are just a thought in my head, a concept I'm unable to grasp onto but I'm waiting for your father, for the right man and the right time in my life but already there is so much I want you to be aware of so many things I cannot wait to teach you, the first thing being that you can do anything you put your mind to. You were made to breath fire, not to cower from your fears.

I hope the world you are brought into is a world free from fear, free from the thought that being feminine is equated to being weak, because you are far from weak. You can move mountains, you can play any sport you want to play you can run and hit and do everything like a girl because guess what my love? That is not a bad thing that does not mean you hit poorly or you run slow because you are a power house.

I do not want you to be afraid to walk home alone, I just urge you to be cautious. I would love to not have to instill in you these from when you are a child but I am not blind to the type of people that live in our world so I will teach you to be strong and brave and cautious. I wish that you could walk down the street and never be scared but I know it will happen but you are stronger than any man, I will not leave you oblivious to the dangers of the world or let you be susceptible to the dangers that does not mean you are not strong it means you are aware. I also want you to know you are and always will be wanted not matter who you turn out to be you will always be welcome and loved.

I want you to know that you are so beautiful and I need you to know that I mean that even though I am your mother, because you are truly beautiful on the inside and out. You are smart and you are kind and you are gorgeous. Remember that everyone has a story and you never know where they came from so never judge others before you get to know them, be kind to everyone show everyone that they are beautiful in their own way. If you ever see someone alone ask if they would like some company, if you ever see someone sad let them know they are loved.

Most importantly be everything I know you can be and know above all that you are not limited by your gender in any way shape or form be whoever you want to be without fear of what others may think, be independent and happy in your own self and be fearless and strong and brave and always know that no matter what I will always be here to listen.

So much Love,

Your momma

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
