Yes, I know there are huge differences between having a child and owning a dog but coming home from college and reuniting with my dog, Hayley, has made me realize two things. Firstly, that as much I say I want a dog when I am in college I really do not need that responsibility. And secondly, having a dog in some ways is like having a child.

While some believe that dogs are simply "man's best friend," having a dog is actually a huge responsibility. Last time I checked I never had to take my best friends on walks or potty train them.

Although my dog is a good companion, I feel like she is like my child that needs my constant attention, help, and love. While I always knew that owning a pet is a big responsibility, being at college made me forget always that having a dog can be like having a child.

1. They never leave your side

Whether you are sitting on the couch or laying in bed, they are always ready to cuddle.

2. You never have a minute alone

They even follow you when you use the bathroom.

3. They embarrass you in public

I took my dog to the groomer and she immediately started to use in the bathroom once we stepped inside. Guess who had a mess to clean up...

4. They do not listen to you

When you tell your dog to come here and the just stare at you or walk in the opposite direction.

5. They make a lot of distracting noises when you are driving

Some dogs like riding in the car while others cry the entire time.

6. They need you to feed them

Mealtime is probably every dog's favorite time of the day.

7. You tell them not to put things in their mouths

When your dog thinks that your shoes are their own personal chew toys.

8. You clean up their accidents and messes

Both dogs and kids are known for making messes occasionally.

9. You teach them to use the bathroom

Teaching your dog to use the bathroom outside and potty training both take a good amount of work.

10. You are always telling your dog “no”

Dogs and kids are always finding their way into things they shouldn't.

11. You have to have a lot of patience

Although dogs are adorable they can be hand full.

12. You have to be responsible

Having a dog comes with an endless list of responsibilities.

13. They can be annoying at times but you love them anyways

My dog loves to sit on my laptop when I am trying to type.

14. If you go out of town you need to find a babysitter

Although kids eventually grow up and can take care of themselves, dogs will always need you to take care of them.

15. They demand your attention

While babies may cry to get your attention, dogs bark and jump on you.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
