The world of comedy is huge, and while I am no expert, I pride myself on having good taste in those that choose to make their living standing up in front of people and telling jokes. So if you’re having a rough day or just want to laugh, check out this curated list of funny people on the internet.
"This American Life-Act Three: Accidental Deception"
If you haven’t already read anything by David Sedaris, go out and read his work now. He’s one of the best humorists out there. But, even more than simply reading his books, I love his stories on "This American Life." This one is no exception. While in Paris, two American tourists mistake him for a pickpocket, and wrongly assume that he doesn’t understand English. Thankfully for us, Sedaris does, in fact, speak English, and he has graced us with this hilarious tale of tourists at their worst.
Bo Burnham: "Make Happy"
Bo Burnham is one of my favorite humans, and this is his best comedy special yet. His clever wit and skill at music mixed with his satirical and slightly perverse comedy are a force to be reckoned with; in other words, he sings really funny songs that are probably not appropriate for your little brother. Throughout the show, he goes deeper about what being a public figure means in this day and age, and that influence makes his comedy that much richer and more hard-hitting. It’s funny and poignant and abrasive and perfect.
Mike Birbiglia: "My Girlfriend's Boyfriend"
Sometimes, comedians use their specials to tell a larger story, and this is one of those specials. Mike Birbiglia talks about his experience (or lack thereof) with girls through the years, and throughout the show, he weaves a tale of car wrecks and vigilante justice in between tales of school carnivals and meeting his girlfriend’s boyfriend. He’s funny without seeming to try, and it only adds to his humor.
John Mulaney: "The Comeback Kid"
The newest special from comic John Mulaney, "The Comeback Kid" is amazing. The man is hilarious. His stories of being in relationships and meeting Bill Clinton as a child are wonderfully told, and his jokes are so relatable, you’ll find yourself nodding along in agreement.
"High School Musical: A Bad Lip Reading"
This is probably my favorite bad lip reading on the internet. Why does it exist? What prompted its creation? Who came up with this idea, anyways? We may never know. But as long as it’s here, we might as well watch it, because it’s hilarious.
Hopefully, this list will keep you occupied for a few hours and brighten your day. And use this as a jumping off point; go out and find things you think are funny, and share them! One of the best gifts you can possible give is the gift of a really good joke.
