7 Fun And (Almost) Free Things To Do This Fall

Don't let having fun this fall be your financial down... fall.

There really is no contest-- Fall is the best time of year. Okay, so some people may disagree with that, but that's my opinion and I'm sticking to it!

Seriously though, how can anyone not love autumn? The crisp air, the beautiful colors, the Halloween and Thanksgiving decorations... It really doesn't get much better.

This year, however, the ability to enjoy my favorite season is being hindered by my complete lack of any funds. It's not for lack of trying-- I'm in the process of interviewing for two jobs-- it's just that money is tight right now. It happens!

I will always find ways to have fun and do the things I love without breaking the bank (see my article Creating The Perfect Dorm on A Budget), and I love sharing my cheap-o ways with all of you. That being said, here's a list of awesome, fun and (almost!) free things to do this fall.

1. Go apple/ pumpkin picking

One of my favorite things to do in the fall is pack up the fam and get a little muddy at the apple orchard/ pumpkin farm. From the family pictures to the obligatory candy apple lunch, this fall activity is truly one that cannot be beat.

2. Carve pumpkins

It can get a bit messy, but carving pumpkins is a blast (if you do it right)! Get on Pinterest and look up some of the coolest pumpkin carving ideas, then royally mess them up when they are actually applied to the pumpkin.

Once your carving is done, cook up those seeds and have a much deserved feast.

3. Watch scary movies

Let's be real-- any time is a good time to watch scary movies. However, watching them in fall just feels right, right?

Hunker down under some blankets with someone you like, be it a friend or significant other or a pet, and pick a terrible Netflix horror flick.

4. Go stargazing

We've all seen the pictures like the one above-- a cute couple in a trunk bed with a bunch of blankets, watching the stars together. Turns out, you don't actually need any of those things to watch the stars.

Just go out on a clear night, whether it be by yourself or with someone else, and take in the fresh fall air. The stars really are prettier in autumn.

5. Go hiking

Even if you have a complete lack of any athletic ability like I do, hiking is one of the most fun ways you can get a little exercise and see the sights! You can't really go wrong.

6. Take fun pictures

Whether you have a big, fancy camera or a crappy little iPhone, taking pictures in the fall is always worthwhile. The scenery is gorgeous and you can have fun playing in the leaves while you're at it!

7. Just chill

Get it? Chill-- because fall is chilly. I'm done.

But seriously, Autumn is one of the best times to just hang out. Grab some coffee, find a couple friends and take in the beauty that is fall.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
