Sunday, September 8th was Grandparent's Day, and if you didn't know that day was even a thing, now you know. Family time is endlessly valuable and important for those of all ages, and we as young people sometimes forget to make time for our grandparents. After all, we wouldn't be here if it weren't for them. If you're blessed enough to still have these incredibly special people in your life, take full advantage. Here are some fun ideas for a day with your Grams and Gramps!
1. Go on a walk.
Whether it be around town, on a nature preserve, or at a park, getting outside and breathing in that fresh air is refreshing. Bodies of all ages love exercise.
2. Go to the movies.
This one's great especially for those that are less able-bodied. Everyone loves movies! Pick out one that you feel you'd both enjoy.
3. Visit a flea or farmer's market.
Did someone say free samples? Exploring a market can be a fun and interesting experience full of new smells and tastes for everyone.
4. Go to a sporting event.
Whether it's your local men's league or your state's major league team, sporting events are a great way to bond over something you both like: your favorite team!
5. Hang out at a coffee shop.
Grab a cup o' Joe and chat it up. Most likely, your grandparents have a lot of stories and wisdom to share. Give them a listen.
6. Go fishing.
A quiet and serene activity, fishing is as fun and as competitive as you want it to be. There's nothing like spending a day on the water.
7. Play a game of cards.
Chances are, your grandparents have a few card games they could teach you up their sleeves. You could even show them some of your favorite drinking card games! (With or without the drinking part...)
8. Draw a family tree.
I myself will definitely be trying this one with my own grandparents! Completing a family tree can be both a learning and mind-blowing experience. Learning more about your past is always a good thing.
9. Plant a garden together.
Go green with Grams and Gramps. Not only is gardening a useful skill to have, but it's a great way to bond with your garden co-owner. Plus, you'll either get some yummy plants or some beautiful flowers!
All in all, simply spend time with your Grandma and Grandpa. I promise it will mean the absolute world to them.
