Once upon a time (25 years ago to be exact) the lives of a beauty and a beast unexpectedly intertwined. After a bit of a rough beginning and a little help from talking furniture, the two fell in love. And the rest? Well, the rest was history.
It’s a well-known, heartwarming fairy tale that will once again grace our screens on March 17, 2017, in Disney’s live-action adaption of the 1991 animated film.
The first full-length trailer for the film was released Monday for your continuous viewing pleasure. So, while March may seem far away, there’s a little something to keep your spirits up (or to amplify the torture) in the meantime.
Full disclosure, though, the trailer will hit you in the childhood feels. Within the first few seconds, your heart will drop as you hear notes from an all too familiar song. The creators did not waste a single second. It will make you happy-cry and
It’s only fitting that Emma Watson stars as Belle in the film. She is pretty much the living embodiment of the character. It’s highly doubtful she will disappoint; even Hermoine Granger would attest to that.
Based on the trailer, it looks like Disney did a pretty good job of not only casting the perfect actors but capturing the essence of its animated predecessor. A side-by-side comparison of scenes from the animated version and the trailer reveals just how similar the two may be. Time has passed, but that doesn’t mean much had to change.
Unsurprisingly, the trailer set a new record with 127.6 million views within its first 24 hours on the internet. Talk about continuous watching, people. The previous two records had been set by “Fifty Shades Darker” with 114 million views and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” with 112 million views. And, the "Beauty and the Beast" trailer's view count didn't even include views in China. Disney classics always come out on top. What's new?
Though the live-action film can’t beat the original, its trailer sure has more of an exciting, dramatic effect than the original trailer did. Granted, technology is much more advanced now, but you can still get a kick out of this light-hearted, early trailer. The difference in the tone of the two trailers is very noticeable.
Now, until March, or at least until another trailer comes out, the burning desire to know how the film will handle the famous "Be Our Guest" scene will have to wait. So "tie your napkin 'round your neck, cherie," and try to find some patience until Disney provides the rest.
