Can we talk about Taylor Swift?
Her latest music video, Wildest Dream, made me die... and then resurrected me so that I could watch it again.
The song is one that has been vastly underrated so far, but with her announcement on August 5 that it will be her new single, my heart screamed. Mostly because I really hated Bad Blood, but I digress.
In case you haven't watched it yet, the link to it is here:
Okay, now that you've had your life changed, let's just talk about this for a minute.
Does anyone else feel like they personally identify with T-Swizzle right now? 'Cause I do. Who among us has not had the long drawn out fantasy about a co-worker (or foreign language classmate)? Obviously, Taylor has too.
When the video begins, you think it will just be another video of Taylor looking cute with a ridiculously attractive man, but oh no. Just wait a minute. It gets real.
Then, there's the shot of Taylor standing in front of the backdrop being left by her man. OMG WHAT?!? Someone doesn't love Taylor, even with that super adorable black hair? I don't believe it.
But then, it gets worse. Because he's engaged. And it's soul crushing. But also it made for some super cute flash backs in black and white, which, cinematically, is excellent.
But then it gets even better, because, while she's driving away, she looks in her rearview mirror, he's running after her. But, like the total role model she is, she keeps going, letting every girl know that it is okay to leave the man behind who is cheating on his wife with you.
Basically, and I mean this sincerely, this is the best music video ever made ever. Sorry, Michael Jackson, but there's a running giraffe in Taylor's video.
In all actuality, this video probably cost the same amount to shoot as the amount of money I will pay throughout my entire college career, and will only prove to make the Swizzle get even more popular than she already is.
However, it is also an incredibly cinematic music video that somehow managed to be both aesthetically and feminist-ly pleasing. If you watch all the way to the end, you will see that the proceeds all go to African Parks Foundation of American for wildlife conservation efforts. Which, no matter what your view of Taylor is, musically or the epitome of the crazy ex-girlfriend, is an amazing effort to help bring awareness to the crisis the wildlife in Africa is facing.
Also there's a lion.
