Welcome to the first edition of FSU Cribs. In this first edition of FSU Cribs we will look at the life and times of Dorman Hall, and how the humble beginnings of the mold infested and noticeably damp smell of this archaic dorm evolved into one of the nicest, largest halls on FSU's campus. I feel quite qualified to write about this because I, like many freshmen before, had to live in Dorman and had to deal with all the nonsense that came with it. Honestly, it wasn't a dorm worth bragging and boasting about. Just mentioning the name "Dorman Hall" makes almost anybody cringe with disgust or suffer from haunting flashbacks of fire alarms going off for hours on end, and showers being closed off due to "drainage back-ups". The typical room you would get in Dorman Hall feels like a bit like a 4' x 4' doll house that can barely hold two beds and a dresser. If you love having minimum space and and like having your closet directly to your left when you get out of bed, this would be the place for you.
For those who entered the college from 2013 and before, you must know the pain and the heartache of living in the hell hole that was once known as the old Dorman Hall. You, and probably everyone else, would probably give up even your own mother just to leave the horror show known as Dorman Hall. Now, flash forward to 2015, and you begin to see the new and improved Dorman Hall. You start to see the majestic and ever florescent building that shines so brightly in the sun. Then you begin to think, why do these freshmen get to have this beautiful dorm while we all had to struggle with the wretched Dorman Hall?
The new and vastly improved Dorman Hall has probably everything in there that the older Dorman Hall lacked so much of. To start off, the new Dorman Hall has a much more modern and updated look than the previous one. The rooms are little bit bigger and so much cleaner. Remember that weird and very annoying smell that traveled everywhere in the dorms? Well, that smell doesn't even exist anymore. You will notice that every room has a hint of lavender and jasmine that will remind you of Chinese culture. Well, that last one is a blatant lie, however the rooms might as well smell like that, especially with how vibrant and new it looks.
When I got word that they were tearing down the Old Dorman Hall and building a newer one, I was a little bitter and somewhat jealous. Even though I don't live on campus anymore, I still felt salty knowing that my precious years as a freshmen was spent in a decrepit building. However, knowing that our school continues to grow and improve only makes the experiences that we have that much better.
