Thanksgiving is a special holiday, you get to be with family and loved ones. Most of your family you normally don't get to see during the year and this and Christmas are the only times that you get to spend extended time with them. Everyone looks forward to it and it's an excuse to eat great food and not care about how much of it you eat. Friendsgiving though might just surpass normal Thanksgiving.
Friendsgiving is something most college students have started doing the week before they go home for break. Most friend groups will get together one night and have all the food that they would normally have at their parent's Thanksgiving. It has started to be seen all over social media and more and more people have started to do it over the years.
This year our Friendsgiving was really special. My friend and I are about to leave to go abroad for a semester and it was really the last time we would all be together for a sit down meal. We went around and talked about what we were thankful for, most people said basic things but some people talked about how grateful they were for all of us to be enjoying our time together before we are seniors. People continued to say similar things along those lines and my best friend ended up crying because she just felt so moved.
I think that Friendsgiving might actually be better than Thanksgiving because you get to celebrate a holiday with your friends in a way. You get to truly be grateful for the people that you are spending most of your time with currently and get to try to cook and become adults that your parents would like you to be. Overall it was full of great friends, yummy food, and I look forward to doing it again next year.
