It is said that “friends are the family you choose." There are so many ways friendships impact our lives and so many reasons we should always cherish them. Friends contribute priceless moments, meaningful conversations, and support to our lives and for that we should be eternally grateful. A big thank you is in order to those friends that have enriched our lives and allowed us to be ourselves and grow.
Here is a small yet important list of roles our friends fill:
Therapist
Everyone has those days when life gets out of control, and who do we go to? Friends. Whether you go to them to cry about school, crushes, or anything that happens to be bothering you at the moment, they are always there to listen and commiserate. On the other side friends are always there to listen to any pointless topic you want to talk about… like how cool your new shower curtain and closet organizers are.
Moral supporter
It is likely that your friends see you more clearly than you see yourself and give you the confidence to go out into the world and be the awesome person that you are. They do this in small ways like saying you look hot in an outfit or being there when someone doesn’t give you the respect you deserve.
Decision maker
Friends are there to give it to us straight, whether that be by telling us that someone we're crushing on is a f***boy or if the shirt we're trying on makes us look hideous. They save us in the little ways which add up to the big things.
Investigator/Analyst
Every friend doubles as an interpreter. We go to them to analyze the tones of texts and decipher a choice of emoji, even if you may never figure out the meaning of that ambiguous emoji. Also who would help you social media stalk your new crush? Teamwork always works best!
Makeshift health professional
There comes a time in life when you have an odd health related concern and you want to know if that has happened to someone else. Do you go to a doctor? Nope, a friend. They will probably give you some very comforting advice and send you on your way and it is times like these we feel extra grateful to have them around. And we didn't even need insurance.
This is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of what our friends can offer us, and it’s important not to take advantage of these lovely individuals. Appreciate the little moments like saying the same thing at the same time, giddy, late night conversations, laughing so hard it causes chest pain and sore abs, and impromptu hang outs and road trips. These are the things you will look back on when you are old and you will want to know for sure you showed your appreciation for your friends. I feel I can speak for everyone when I say, thank you for being a part of my life and enriching my memories.
