Traveling creates a special bond between people. What better person to spend it with than your best friend? My best friend, Taylor, and I have managed to travel all over together. I can honestly say that each trip would have been completely different if I hadn't had Taylor by my side every day.
Something about being in an unfamiliar place together strengthens your relationship. It gives you sweet memories that you know will last a lifetime. And it gives you the urge to want to continue traveling all over the world together.
The very first big trip we went on together was a missions trip to the Dominican Republic. We stayed in a very poor part of the country. Every day had its own struggles and adventures. The main struggle was the food. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner were beans, beans, and more beans.
Soon we got to experience the great joy of feeling deathly ill after every meal; but we experienced it together. And through the sickness and pain we found ways to laugh uncontrollably at the situation.
We had the amazing opportunity to spread God's word to little children in the different villages together. Every day we got to meet new children. And every day Taylor and I would talk about how we wanted to put all the kids in our suitcases and take them back home with us.
One day in particular stuck out to us the most. We went to a little village to host a church service. Before the service, we walked around to all the different houses telling everyone that church was at 4 o’clock. We ended up packing 150 adults and children into a building that was supposed to hold only 50 people. We saw God move in so many different ways. And we saw it together. We experienced that amazing life-changing moment together. It was a beautiful time that both of us will cherish forever.
Our next trip was to Key West, Florida. This was a fun little getaway for us. It was right after we finished our first semester of college. We both had hard and stressful exams. But that made our vacation all the more relaxing.
We got to swim in crystal clear water. We got to jet-ski around the islands. We got to ride bikes around all of Key West. And we got to stay in the most beautiful resort. I think the best part for both of us was being able to wear our bikinis in December. It was adventure after adventure during the trip. And through those adventures, we made memories that we will never make with anyone else.
Taylor and I have now turned into adventure and traveling junkies. Our upcoming big trip is a missions trip to Costa Rica in summer 2016. Again we will be able to experience the joy of spreading God's word together.
We will also be going skydiving soon, and the last of our big plans, for now, we will be going on a cruise together.
Traveling brings us together. It makes our friendship stronger. And it gives us comfort knowing that no matter where life takes us, we will always have those special memories together.
