The definition of family shouldn't be based on "blood" or your last name, but solely on the connection and feeling you have with each other. You find those friends maybe by accident or you have grown up with them. These are the ones that will be with you through the darkest moments of your life and the brightest. They will pick you up when you are down and will always have your back no matter what. You will truly learn who your real friends are during these times. And the ones that stick around are far more than your friends; they're your family.
Coming into college is just like freshman year of high school all over again. You are scared to get out of your shell and meet new people. But the one thing I have learned is to always be yourself. In high school I had a strong group of friends. Now, as I just completed my first year of college, I can name all my friends from high school that are truly family to me on one hand. Things happen; that is life. But, I'm grateful that God removed the people from my life because it made room for others in my future.
The friends you meet in college are way more important than you think. You are experiencing some of the best years of your life together. Thanks to these friends you won't be that socially awkward person anymore. You won't be experiencing things alone either. You all will be making bigger and better memories that will you will cherish for a lifetime. Your friends will always bring out the best in you. In every friend group you have a dad that tries to be responsible, or a mom that is always protective. They try to take initiative, but lets be honest, it doesn't work all the time.
You honestly do not realize how friends become your family until you need someone during a tough time. It is crazy to think that just a short time ago you never even knew these people existed. Now look at all of us.
When I'm down from a bad exam score or stressed about college in general, thank you guys for always having my back and never letting me fail. It feels like out of this past year of meeting you all I have known you a lifetime. I'm grateful that God has put you guys into my life.
It's crazy how life changes at this point in our lives. But it is also remarkable to see who God puts in our lives to make the change a lot more bearable. There are some people that were just acquaintances a year ago and then they are the most important people in your life.
Finally, I just want to say thank you to the friends that have become family to me in this short span of a year. I'm truly grateful for you guys. Also, thank you for always being by my side and making my college expierence one to remember.
